Hi guys. First build thread... Been lurking for some time. But caught myself in ADHD rage attacking my new ski and thought this was good a time as ever. Interacted with so many folks through Facebook... and I hate facebook no idea why I waited so long

Some background. I picked up the hobby 3 years or so ago and caught the itch forever.. now neglecting a past life of drift cars, dirt bikes and other hobbies. I started with a Seadoo HX & a SP and the rest is history. I've made/had a few neat skis. 1100 X4 & 951 X4, Kawi 1100 B1 (after a failed Yam1200, and bored with 701), 750 x2, 951hx and tons of random couch flips. This year picked up my first standup, a SN SJ from brapperdoodle and reused my B1's healthy old 61x to open up a can of worms that's rapidly getting out of control.

Last weekend me and a handful of buddies got the pleasant opportunity to all buy a lot of Kawi Standups & X2's

Which brings us to Ski #32 (no poop)
My ski from the haul

Plan was every ski hits the water next day. So that evening gave this and 2 other skis a solid once over, cleaned out the tank, added a ton of zip ties, fuel filters I trust, a prok cause I didn't like the K&N pancake thingy it had.

Ride came along and it did great! My first time on one of these hulls and I adored it. What a silly feeling watching it ride away into a big circle and boomerang back to you, the stock pump is worthless and or the impeller pitch is far too short, but none the less I didn't want to stop riding it!

It's got either a dying solenoid or starter... Easy fix just keep pressing the button and pray. Left the bilge off for sometime and had some water build up catch me off guard. Hopefully just the old hood seal and my negligence. It's a vibratey mess so assuming pump job is in the cards. Started oddly cutting in and out end of the ride, I figured it was water ingestion into something. Worked fine again strapped to the trailer on the ramp dyno. Overall massive success. All the other skis were solid with minor issues, except the other 440 that basically had a clogged cooling line, despite prior to Sat/Sun was pulled off the floor and looked like it hadn't run in 20 years, it made it across a cove... surreal.

So here we are today prepping for next ride and the "build"

Fixing the starting woes, and starting the cosmetic overhaul.
Found some dodgy wiring. I guess this is 550 ebox converted.. I need to research more. But few mismatched wire colors soldered together covered in tape, not the best. Also ordered all new battery & starting cables from BatteryCablesUSA.com. I CANNOT stress how much I love those guys and how much better every ski I have turns over since defaulting to throwing all the old crusty 6ga wire in the trash. Also bypassed the fuel selector, replaced all the OG fuel line.

Ordered up so far a Jettrim mat, feline unfortunately got its claws at this old school HT mat, new pole pads, removed the stickers I was told was to "man" the ski up for the rider. Unfortunately the same masculinity effort that netted orange all over the ski (loved the stickers, not the color) and painted the pole pads green robbed us of the pink side graphics.

I'm a sucker for keeping it stock appearance but I haven't decided whether to stick with the stock 90 440 graphics or go for the lightning 550sx scheme, exploring those options. I'd LOVE to do a pink chin pad but haven't found that option yet either.. need to fire off some emails.

So what else is in the cards to come??
First will be controls, id like to do some better bars, clean up some slop there definitely some new bushings in order, and a tether switch

First big mod. 750 pump, seems like a necessity for this ski to party like I want to party.

Off season.... Now that's the question.
I was pretty quick to want to do the obvious, bigger pipe & 750... But I just made a gigantic effort to offload years of piled up Seadoo spare parts and purposely brought myself down to 2 platforms, 701 & Kawi 1100. I'm not sure I wanna add a 3rd.

So I'm thinking mod 61x + bpipe. I'm very happy with my SJ setup, lots of data there I've got written down and trust..... But we'll see. Goal #1 is to get more tray time on this cause it's a RIOT and enjoy it for the remainder of the season

Updates to come

Attacked the ski again tonight, got it ready for next ride.

Re did the bodgy wiring that was just twisted up soldered and tape with some nice quality crimps & marine heat shrink. Replaced a bunch of random stuff I wasn't happy with; bilge hose, attached the ground and positive to the ebox vs dangling at the battery. Waiting on my new battery cables so just wire wheeled the old ones. Slapped in a spare starter. Retightened the steering plate, the little quick steer thing I assume wasn't actually bolted to the plate. Had to drill it out to a m7 which sucked. Reglued the ride plate after inspecting the hoses down there and forgot about it so my trailer bunks now have a 3M 5200 snail trail

Lastly got my tether switch in! And some new to this ski grips.

Trying to get better about taking the pictures so doing this mediocre post to remind myself I suck about it.

Ready to ride though! Just at the long wait for parts now

Love the write up and new build ! I don’t have Facebook so it’s cool seeing x get used more especially on builds . I live vicariously through the build section as I don’t have a ski right now. One day soon though. Let us know how this next ride goes.

Took it out! Nobody wanted to ride with me... So it was just me and, basically an empty lake. Made the most of it though. Ski ran flawlessly, was nice being able to actually fall off and not chase it. No starting issues today. No weird misfires either. Hopefully we're squared away. Figured out the carving by leaning in like a mad man. What a rush when it pulls out of what seems like rolling over. It kinda hurts my arms, unlike my SN so might explore some bar options, not sure where to start however.

I need to do something about the cavitation. Certainly it just must have way too short an impeller. The small pump can't be this bad. Anyone got a good prop for this little buddy?? Managed 38mph... Which it's got more in it currently for sure but not to comfortable with the way it walks yet at speed.

Got it home tonight had a little time to kill. Got my new hood seal in, installed that, gave it a quick polish, probably all I'll ever do with this. Just a pass of Meguairs I m210 + some crappy Amazon pads with a DA. Gonna spray it down with Turtle Wax Ceramic before tomorrow's ride.

Need to check battery voltage again. Not confident it actually charges. But hey not bad for a new arrival.

Ride today went well. Again without a hitch. Still sometimes wants to just give me the solenoid click and no turnover. Hasn't stranded me or anything but it's like 1/20 starts it's noticable. Gonna try and swap tmrw I have a new one floating around. Battery voltage seems to be staying correct now, so fixing the wiring hopefully corrected that.

New pole pads came in! Gave it some inspired turf!

Awaiting parts! Ordered the lightning style graphics...cause why not

B1 impeller finally shows up tomorrow so may tinker there.

This past weekend swapped that Solenoid with the new WSM one. It was sticking on. Angrily removed it all again. Found an old X2 one I had laying around. That works. Crazy we went 90>24>88

Got a good ride in with a buddy on Sunday. Did some more testing with the 1100 B1 and tested out the solenoid no issues so far.

Well todays Monday and I f'd up. I couldn't leave well enough alone and decided to swap impellers I have a PJs 17 laying around not quite 19 or 20 watcon suggests for this swap. But whatever is in there blows dicks and well found out is NOT coming out. Ended up ruining the DS holder I made out of a old Miata timing tool, impeller is one of those goofy ones that's has no logical way of removal, made a jank tool. All I managed was to loosen up the PTO on the engine.... Then slid the engine forward and low and behold did the same thing to the DS coupler. So I'm just cutting this stupid thing off. 750 pump time.

So short term guess I'm going back to riding the Superjet, angrily pulled the engine out and slammed it on the table to give it some fresh gasketry. Problem for another day I guess. It'll be great to ditch this smoking gun of a pump and bearing setup before it rips the hull apart. What a terrible design.

If anyone has parts hit me up! Both RHAAS and BlackMarkit are out of stock. Gonna need that X2 DS and a conversion bearing. And a 750 nozzle. I have pump and a Skat laying around.

While you are doing all of this work ditch the 550 electronics , that was a dodgy fix to begin with and long term it usually doesn't work out that well .
You will love that ski with a 750 pump it's like night and day coming from a 440 pump.

Started the travesty of prepping the ski for fresh graphics and mat. Such a mess. Gotta just trust the process and suffer I guess. Ran out of brain cells for today. 1000061249.jpg

Have you thought about these?

I have but I figured it would cut out some of the loosey gooseyness. Which is kinda the charm of it. Not trying to set a lap record

Understood. The regular length extensions, I believe, do not do anything to change the ride of the ski. They merely replace the existing end caps which generally have water captured in them.

At some point I will drill a hole in my 550sx end caps to see if water comes out.

Then I will decide if I want to go with the regular length extensions or the XL. Choosing between the two is really like riding a regular vs an extended length ride plate -- lighter riders can use regular length while heavier riders can more easily keep the nose down with extended length.

Thank you for rescuing these vintage skis. The more there are around, the more people will be interested in two stroke stand ups. Which will be the revival of this sport.
