300/440/550 1991 550sx K&N filter….

To remove or just run it..
So we have had my wife’s 550sx for a couple year but never really used it. Saying that we are lake slaying these days and was curious if running the K&N filter is smart or change to a tornado style filter?

Also changing out her broken hood strap.. definitely a pain in the ass or does anyone have any tricks?
Thank you!

They work fine till they get wet,m then they don';t they used to sell a protective cover for them called an outerwear that would help some.

I'd ditch that k&n and run a stock one with 1 screen. As stated before, as soon as the k&n gets wet the Ski runs like crap and let's all the water in. I had a k&n like that with dual 38s and switched to 2 gutted oem 440 metal arrestors with no screen and I had to rejet the carbs. Picked up quite a bit of power too. And never invested water in the engine. It's a 550, there's gonna be water in the engine bay all the time.
