Super Jet 1994 Yamaha Superjet Starter Button Wont Work

Hi everybody,
I recently have had trouble with water getting into my electrical box and corroding everything. The electric start still worked until recently. I got everything dried out and got a new starter relay but it still wont start through the button. If I bypass the relay it will start right up its just that I cant from the button. The kill switch works also which proves its not the main wiring. Anybody know what I need to do? The fuse is good but could something else be the matter?
Thanks for looking!

How are you by passing the relay to start? Just jumping across the large battery wires?

Start wires are brown/red. Check for corrosion @ the plug. This is common. Also common to have issues inside the switch itself. Disconnect the plug and test the switch there with a multi meter. You can then disassemble the switch and clean contacts internally. We have also seen bad wires at the handle pole pivot. Just because your stop switch works does not prove your start harness is good.

Hey thanks for the tips! I found out that the fuse prongs were folded flat so they weren't getting a good connection. After straightening them out and scraping the corrosion off...it worked just fine.

It sounds like you may have a faulty starter button or wiring issue related to the button. Since the relay is working when bypassed, the issue could be with the signal from the button not getting through to the relay. You could try cleaning the contacts of the starter button and checking for any damaged wiring or loose connections. It's also possible that there could be a problem with the starter button itself, in which case it may need to be replaced. If you're not comfortable troubleshooting the issue yourself, it's always a good idea to consult with a qualified electrician or mechanic who can help diagnose and fix the problem safely.
