Super Jet 1994 Yamaha Superjet Waterbox Caulk/Sealer has came off

Hello,
When I bought the ski, all of the electrical, steering, and throttle cables were routed behind the water box tubes which ended up melting through them. While taking the exhaust tubes off the water box, some of the sealer/caulk/silicone around the tube entry crumbled off. Should I be concerned about this? If so what type of sealer should i put back around it? Thanks!

Photos do wonders in helping get responses to such requests, just saying.

You are going to find out pretty quick if you have an exhaust leak. Ski will run terribly and then not at all because the exhaust is being expelled directly into the engine bay. Since the waterbox maintenance requires tank, battery box etc removal, best to deal with the issue right away and either reseal or buy a better water box. Squarenose waterboxes are an absolute liability and best to replace.

If there is any Black soot or goop around the area, it's leaking. If not leaking, clean it with brake clean or similar and goop it up with silicone gasket maker. I've found that a tiny exhaust leak under the hood does not make it run any different. But I mean small

Did I understand correctly that Squarenose is not the best option?

Ok i will be sure to check. Oof! Its backfired twice since I got it but that is because I havent had it in the water yet and the cylinders are pretty full of gas. I will check on it later tonight for cracks, leaks, etc.

The cylinders shouldn’t be full of gas, even if it was sitting for awhile. Sounds like maybe it has a leaky needle/seat. Or diaphragm has hardened and caused the needle to stay open. Be careful because when/if the Waterbox lid blows due to backfiring it is extremely loud. I had my head a little too close to the engine compartment a couple years ago and I lost hearing in my right ear for 3 days when the box exploded. Luckily it came back!
