1996 Yamaha waveventure 700

I can break out the ezout and work on replacing them if it’s very likely they could be the issue. I don’t recall seeing them in the MIKUNI MK-BN38/44 SPR kit I bought. Is this an item that can be purchased individually? I’ve also seen some people double stack them, is that typically recommended?

Don't double them up. It appears in that vid as if there is enough stiffness to push your finger back........no good, too thick. Basically if you can get under it with your fingernail and lift off the edge and it pops closed with a little snapping noise.....its too thick. That's aftermarket and causes this issue. Most susceptible seem to be the Yamaha 700 twin carb and the Sea-Doo 40i single carb. The thin stockers should have been in the kits. If u can't find them PM me your address and I'll send you a couple in the snail mail. Set your jet covers on something solid and hammer the screw a few times lightly. That will reshape the screw head sort of closing up the phillips relief. Then place a screwdriver bit and hammer it back in. This will bite in and normally break the screw loose.

I’m not doubting that may be an issue but wouldn’t the over stiffness cause issues during the higher throttle input? My bogging begins just off idle.

Truefully there are so many things that could be wrong here that it is going to be really hard for someone on the internet without the carbs in their hands to pinpoint, all we can do it give you scenarios , it could be as simple as the bypass holes being clogged up .

The real truth is that most people have no idea how to properly check everything on a carb when they rebuild it, they just throw a Mikuni or worse yet an aftermarket kit in it , replace some of the parts and then wonder why it won't work correctly.

The guys that do it everyday use an ultrasonic cleaner to dip the carbs in and doublecheck everything , those are the guys that don't post on here asking what is wrong with their carbs, why , because they didn't take any shortcuts and they don't have to.

I a m not saying you have to have an ultrasonic cleaner , I did it for years without one , what you do have to do is shoot carb cleaner through the low speed jets, flip the carb upside down , hold the butterfly open and visually conifirm that the bypass holes are all clear , wear safety glass or you will get an eyefull of carb cleaner and have a really bad day.

If the bypass holes are plugged you can take a bread tie , strip it down to just the wire, bend the wire at 90 degrees to make an L, you want to keep the L fairly short , use that to poke all the bypass holes with while you hold the butterfly open , then repeat the carb cleaner procedure again till the bypass holes are clear, I suggest using Berryman B12 carb cleaner it is the best, strongest carb cleaner on t he market bar none .

Okay, I did complete that process when breaking the carbs down. With the pilot jet installed and removed I verified that when spraying gumout through the jet hole that it came out through the small hole located in the air intake channel. It seemed to have a decent stream shooting out and both carbs were comparable. I also removed the low speed screw and then shot gumout through it while holding my finger over the pilot jet. The return restriction port on the mag carb was clogged up solid but I was able to clean it out.
I am going to look for the flaps in the rebuild kit this evening to see if I have them. I guess if they are overly stiff that could prevent them from closing all the way to seal off the high jet port.

Did you check the reeds yet ?

So you didn't check them the way I said to, got it .

You do realize the reeds can fully close, visually inspection can say they look to be in excellent shape and still they be bad right ?
