1998 tigershark 770

I just bought a 1998 tigershark 770 and was wondering why there is no filters in the air boxes and why when i look them up i cant find anything. Theres just a metal container thing on top of each carb. Thamk for any info on this thing

I payed 500 for it and its pretty clean. And its not that i think it needs a filter but just was a suprise to me cuz evey other ski ive worked on has atleast a metal screen. Anyway I went thru the carbs and fuel lines and got it running but not great. When i was going thru the fuel lines there was a little brase jet in a fuel line by the accelerator pump on the pto side. Anyone know what this is ?

Ya, Tigersharks have no air filter screens, just the big cast alum box with plastic lid.

I got a 96 Tigershark 3 seater 900 for free that came on a all aluminium single trailer. I only bought it for the alum trailer and the owner didnt know if it currently ran at all, but the ski turned out to be a runner and been running perfect for 10 years. It does 60mph and is all stock and has a great fast acting electric trim system.
Arctic Cat can build some wicked motors with sweet HP. They were only in business making PWC for 8 years I believe. The hulls were meh OK, but the motors are reliable with great HP. My 900(110HP) beats YAM and Kaw 1100s and its only a 900. Holds lots of beer too! lol
I always wanted to put this 900 motor in a SJ hull.. Would be fun!

"Outerwears" were originally designed for dirt applications in the beginning to keep dust , dirt, and debris out of your carb on a dirt bike/quad/etc. Then somebody got the bright idea to market them to the PWC community to repel water from their A/M flame arrestors. When all they do is make a screen of water when water hits them and block off precious air that you need. It doesn’t matter how much silicone spray you spray on them(what they say to use in instructions), they still suck.

I tried them once on my Dasa 800 non PV with dual Blackjack 44's. MSD TL, B pipe, and the engine could not even breath/rev properly being dry, let alone wet. They block more air than they repel water in any way, shape, or form..IMHO and experience.

Anyones know what this little jet is that was in a fuel line going from accelerator pump to the carb its bolted to on pto side. It just looks like a tiny brass jet any ideas ?

restrictor jet is sometimes required in the return line on some carbs. not sure if that's what you have. and some sort of screen on filters is a damn good idea, so nothing big gets sucked into the motor. the one time I left the screens out, I sucked up a random needle bearing from a previous grenade and re grenade. if the jet is on the accelerator pump metering the pumps squirt, then that's what it does, makes sure not to drown the motor when it pumps.

I had one of the first tigersharks with the 600 motor. Thought I was the poop until I got on a XP720. Interesting hull and deck though and the motor was alright. Would bog after anything too wild.

Mine had no screens on the air boxes.

Stupid story for you, my very first set of skis was a pair of 1998 Tigershark 700s. I got a good deal and split the cost with a buddy. We knew nothing about skis, or really anything about boating, at the time. We ended up taking them up to Lake Erie to East Harbor to try and find some waves to ride. One started taking on a lot of water and we found that a plug had fallen out of a hole in the exhaust water jacket. We couldn't find the NPT plug and didn't have any tools, so my buddy jammed a stick in the hole and broke it off. We then proceeded to ride all the way out to Kelleys Island (at least 4-5 miles offshore), around the island, and all the way back. The waves out there were big enough that I had a hard time staying on the ski. Looking back now, we probably could have won a Darwin award for that one... Those Tigersharks ran good though!

Now whenever we have ski issues, we just say "jam a stick in it!"
