Dude, you might be bent at Art right now for what happened but if you want to get it squared away you should really get him on the case. My engine had a few issues initially (my mistakes) and he was more than willing to help and his advise was spot on.

I just broke in a new Jetworks motor myself this spring. It showed proper piston wash after the first tank. I don't even see the beginning of some on yours...

My ski had the beginnings of piston wash after only 20 minutes also.... Attached picture is of my pistons... I went to re-torque the head after 20 mins of riding and I stripped a cylinder head bolt. I had the mixture rich for the breaking, then backed the adjuster screws off after that first tank. I think I wiped off the front cylinder piston with a rag... but the rear cylinder shows how much piston wash I had after 20 mins of riding.

For the life of me I am drawing a blank, but it is either from being to Rich or to Lean.

I would say Rich

I would say rich also... so much fuel washing away all the carbon off the tops of the pistons...

after the first 20 minutes when the ski started to run poorly I am thinking that would have been the time to stop riding it and call Art. the fact it was bogging and then run better after cooling seems like it was seizing. what does the side of that piston look like? are all 4 corners scraped up? did you add extra oil for breakin? did you let the ski warm up and ride easy for a bit or just jump on it and blast around? Not looking to place blame I am just trying to help with why this happened so you (and others) dont do it again. sorry to hear it, lets all work together to make this a rare occurance.

I am frustrated right now but I will say Art has been helpful. I was happy with the motor when it ran...even though ot was only 20 minutes. I am more upset about the fact I will not most likely be on my last bore and will probably need a new head. Unless I can find domes but slim chance is what it looks like.

One good thing is with the new head I can run more compression.

The ski ripped, well for only about 20 minutes or so. It would then bog and would repeat after cooling down.

^^^^^

signs of 4 point seizure. gets hot piston expands then pow! seizure- usually at ht e 4 points between the ports. the shrapnel could be bits of the piston

I did indeed put more oil in for first tank. I followed arts break in procedure. I also tried some things after speaking with him on the phone. I was very careful because I knew I did not want to just plop the motor in and forget about everything else. Only 2 scrapes on the side of the piston.

I checked compression each time I rode. Was about 4-5 weekends with less than an hournof riding. Never did a wot run. Ski only had 160lbs of compression

look at the plugs closely a friend of mine is in the process of a claim against ngk for a faulty plug that the electrode came loose and allowed air to enter the motor creating a large air leak below 30lbs of pressure.

Full tank 93 octane. Myself and friends who have extensive knowledge in jetskis put cooling and fuel lines in. I also doublechecked with art on my setups.

Also oem tank on line went to one carb and reserve went to other carb. Return lines were t'd into tank

Did you extend the pickups from the reserve line that you are using as an intake line?
If not you may have been sucking air on that one carb while the other carb had fuel which in turn would cause that cylinder to run lean.

What the $%*& is goin on with our crews skis this season bob?!??!! Hope you can get this sorted out soon and have a good running ski for the outlaw ride and wavedaze bro. Good luck!

That may be the problem. Any restriction in fuel peessure could cause that carb to go lean. I always run 2 fuel lines for dials unless you removed the pump off the second like on stock duals

I thought i read he had connected the returm feom one to the input of the other. Hence secomd carb in the circut. which he said it was.
