2 bilge questions

How much water is left in your hull after the bilge cant suck anymore water out? (this was with the ski slightly tilted back on the trailer) I get about 1/4-1/2".... normal? I have my pump mounted below the coupler with the bracket that uses the bolts from the intermediate housing.

Do you think a check valve installed in the bilge line would solve airlocking... not really sure what causes it... but mine seems to be doing it 50% of the time...

That is about correct I have the same but when it is on the trailer and I make a right turn most of it exits the scupper valve and what doesn't exit I soak up with a sponge when I get home. I always hang the hood up and store the ski without the hood.

k... so does anyone else have this happen to their rule pump? I fill up the hull with about 1-2" of water and turn the pump on.... it pumps almost all the water out and then starts sounding like it is sucking air and keeping a little water in the bilge hose at the same time... keeps pulsing like this as the bilge pump continues to run

Then I start filling the hull again and fill it up to like 1" of water... it should def. pump this water out as it pumped it down to 1/4"-1/2" before... but it does not start pumping until the water level is up to 2" or more... then it seems to catch and pump the water down to 1/4"-1/2" again...

Anyone ever figure out why this happens? I know its something like air locking, but have no idea why its happening... or maybe they all do this?

youre probably using rule 500gph pumps. thats what i use, and they do it too. from what i understand, they are the only pumps that airlock.

ive thought about poking a small hole just after the pump's outlet to drain the water thats being "suspended" by the spinning impeller and letting it drain back into the hull and allowing the pump to re-prime itself. youd want to make the hole facing down..... instead of, say, directly toward your f/a.

just a theory.

You can also turn your pump on and blow down the bilge line to force that suspended water back to the pump.

cool... thanks for ALL the helpful replies hehehe...

SFL--> check this out... a check valve installed in the bilge line- dont know what this is from but I found it during my searches for info on air locking... looks like your idea for pocking a hole... at least it looks like that is what they are describing --> except you just stick a check valve in the hole...

just drill a hole in the bottom of the hull........... it will drain out.

Good idea... try it and tell me how it works :).... I could put a little dog in there and he could drink the water... then I can let him out when I come in to refuel and he could piss it out like a bilge... he can also polish my bpipe while he's in there...

Chick, I just spit coffee on my monitor.:lmao: You learn something new everyday.

Eric,
That is deffinatelly normal with Rule pumps. Honestly, I really never use the bilge. My scupper is more than sufficient.

I use a rule 1100gph with huge jetworks pisser and it airlocks and leaves water too.

My next one will be the one Jett uses (attwood from Walmart I think??)

I have heard they are WAY better.

I am sicking of having to kick mine off then on to get it to work.

Attwoods are cheap too. Not as cheap as they used to be since they switched to the "Tsunami" pump, but they are still about 5 bones cheaper than rule's. I will be running two 500 tsunami's.
