2 months old and cracked carbon

I bought it in Portland, Oregon because when I was buying, the LBS didn't have the bike in stock and quoted me a 10-week lead time. So I got it elsewhere, and about $474 cheaper as well.
So to answer your question, I didn't take it back to Portland because I didn't feel like driving 200 miles each way on two separate trips. Besides, Giant makes it clear that any dealer should take care of it.
 
I have a friend who has cracked two Niner FS MTB frames... both were replaced at no charge. Seems like most companies who build carbon frames are pretty good about replacing them. I'm hunting for a Santa Cruz Bronson right now and I think I'm just going to go with an aluminum frame, I suck too much at MTB to warrant a carbon frame.
 
just don't tell them u flipped it ;0)........

on another note and out of curiosity should this be expected of aftermarket hull builders too ??......outch
 
I don't really post in this forum, but I thought I would give you a little insight into your frame, maybe give you some closure as to how it cracked instead of the old trainer excuse (which is the most common excuse bike shops and companies use when electing not to replace a frame).

To understand why your cracked your frame, or paint (I can't tell how deep it is in the picture), you have to understand how carbon bikes are made. They make all of the "junctions" separately, so this would include: a head tube junction, bottom bracket junction, seat tube junction and rear axle junction. All of these junctions then have a lead of the tube they are joined too, and essentially the middle of the tubes are just plugged in with some form adhesive to join all of the junctions. Depending on the company, some wrap the joint in extra carbon layers, most of the time just a layer or so to keep the connection hidden.

So, what you've done is either just cracked the paint at the connection from the joint flexing apart (which is quite common), or cracked the single layer of carbon hiding the joint. Definitely not terminal, but also should definitely not happen on that new of a bike.
