2001 GP800R not going over 3000 RPM in the water

You are damned lucky that power valve didn't drop in the engine and destroy it, I have had that happen only once without taking something out.

Looks like a crusty Salt Water Engine...jus sayin'
Yeah it’s what sucks about being in Florida.
Personally this GP 800R was manageable the worst one I’ve rebuilt surprisingly wasn’t the rental 800XL but, the 1200R from Mississippi.

The 717 Seadoo GTI was just as bad.

Same pistons on the 717
(they are smooth to the touch)

I’m a 1200R guy… but here’s what I’d check
Are the PV cables installed correctly?? It’s easy to swap them.
When building carbs… was the popoff checked? This is crucial for proper fueling
After rebuild was the engine pressure tested? Not that you’re having runaway, but a tight engine makes for a better running engine.
Lastly… did you replace the fuel pump disks??
I know it’s a lot.. but all these make for a top running 2 smoker

PV cables are 100% correct, this is my 3rd Power Valve ski so got them figured out at this point.

Carbs were rebuilt by a local that races skis and pop off checked, in front of me, prior to pickup.

These carbs had to get aluminum welded as the idle adjustment screw broke in the mail
-cough- genius eBay packaging.

Leak down test is what I assume your referring to with ‘pressure tested’ and yes it had 0 leaks/issues.

Always preform compression tests like crazy on every single one of my rebuilt skis on the initial break-ins. Personally haven’t done any tests on it as I just got the carbs back the other day.

What do you mean by the fuel pump disks?
I’m assuming you’re referring to fuel filter and if so yes I’ve already replaced it.

All that’s left for me to do is…
Paint my cylinder head as it’s the only part of my ski that’s not 100% perfect at this point. Might go a blue temp resistant top coat spray paint just to show that fact.

Get title/registration for the 1200R hull, been delaying on this and might just drop it in the 800R hull as it’s $200 for the paperwork vs $400-$600 for a titled 800R/XL hull with engine near me.

I already have the D-plate upgrade, d-plate chip, it had welded SBT cranks already and replaced the wear ring and prop.

I’ve been debating about a Solas prop and Riva grate/pump shoe and ride plate upgrades for it. I likely would of made the upgrade already if I wasn't handed the replacement prop/wear ring for $20.

But, this has been the state of it for about a month now due to the whole carb needing welded fiasco.

I have been keeping busy rebuilding the other skis I got currently…

GP760 freshly rebuilt 1 hour on engine.

GP800XL new piston rings, head, wave eater clips, fresh carb rebuild and replaced stator

GP800R freshly rebuilt have yet to break it in.

Seadoo GTI 717 new rings, upgraded to Yamaha fuel filter, replaced old lines, un-seized engine and prolly a good bit more coming once I get the right size cylinder head..

so should be ready to go with all 5 skis within the next couple of weeks.

Ok cool… you’ve got a lot of the little, often missed things stuff
The disks I’m referring to are in the fuel pumps. I’m not 100% sure about the 800 but there on the side of the I body carbs
