2001 superjet

I was looking for my first stand up jet ski and I found a 2001 SuperJet for 4,500. It is stock other than an after market bilge pump and a rebuilt engine and other than a tear in the padding lining the tray and a missing primer it seems like it is in perfect condition. I was wondering if 4,500 was on the high side and if it is what should I offer for it. Thanks ahead of time

Hey, thanks for the information. Something I was wondering as someone new to this how did you tell it was a 61x and not a 62t. Based off of what I looked up it seemed like you could run a single carb and dual carbs on both of them and from what I can teel that is the main/only difference from the top.

Casting marks are the definitive means, since that's what the numbers are referring to. But you have to really get in there to see them. There are other more subtle ways to tell, if you're really a jedi in these things, but us common folk have to rely on casting marks.

Regarding the last few posts above - I think the summary is that if you've been told that's a totally stock 2001 SJ, and the 2001 SJ came with dual carbs, then the seller is not telling you the truth. It might be fine as is, but it's not what that person is claiming it is - it's NOT as it was in stock form. So, you have to wonder what else is not exactly as it's claimed to be...

Also, it could be a 650 someone swapped it out with. There should be a data plate on top of the intake manifold. That will tell you if it’s a 650 or 701.

I am betting it's a 650 right now because of where the spark plug wire holder is placed. See that rubber thing on the front of the engine that looks like a dog's nose? On a superjetor waveblaster, that should be in the back. On something like a Waverunner 3 650, it would be placed right where it is in that pick. Someone may have swapped a Waverunner 3 engine into that ski. Could still be a 701, but not many WR3s had a 701.

Thanks for that warning about the engine. I have the data plate but not sure what is means. When I tried to research it not much came up and couldn't reach a conclusion. 1680213353703.png
Is this a 701 or a 650

I'm also glad that it's a 701. Thanks for the confirmation. It still is a different engine though because as mentioned earlier the 2001 came with duel carbs or could have someone changed the case so it's the same engine but single carb. Also if someone did change the case why might they do it? Is their a performance benefit or will they have only done so they only have to deal with one carb?

My suspicion is that someone bought that ski with a motor that is worth more and swapped in a motor from a late 90s wave runner donor ski just to sell it. Regardless, they lied about it being all stock. I hate that with a fury. If you’re going to sell it in some different configuration just own up to what it is it’s not a big deal. What you’ve got is probably going to be great, and it wouldn’t have made it any worse if you knew what was actually in it first instead of them lying.

Ok that's good to know. I am wondering, knowing all of this how much would you pay for the ski? I had offered 3750 for it and he said no, but a week later he changed the listing price to 4000.

If it’s a good hull and a good motor… $3750 is a deal. Figure $1000 for motor and electronics (steal!), $2500 for hull, pump, tank, pole, steering (steal!) $4000 isn’t a rip off, but he’s a liar, so f—- him.

Thanks for the reply and to the sellers defense I don't think he is the one that switched the engine. I think it was the owner before him and he didn't notice considering he told me he had to fix a seal or something because water was getting into the engine.
