Octane 2002 octane hood

just started working on my octane by replacing the hood molding. There seems to be a big gap at the foot tray side of the hood, where the latch is. Looks like it is for the engine to breath. Is this normal? Looks like a lot of water would get in. dan

Yes, the gaps between and on either side of the hood latch are for air to enter. Yes water will enter also if you submerge the watercraft. Just keep and eye on the bilge pump stream after you have submerged the watercraft. To prevent too much water from getting into your hull try not to submerge the ski if it is still pumping water out the bilge.

Also make sure you still have black air inlet tubes on the bottom of your hood to prevent the water from entering your carbs.

i am thinking of adding some floatation to the hood some how in case it dislodges. dont want it sinking to the bottom of the bay. also think i will add a strap of some kind to hold the hood on tight.
