2008 Superjet "Last Year of Production" ?????

ANT

Just ride
I spoke to a Yamaha dealer yesterday. He said 2008 was not the last year for the Superjet. The emission laws are an average based on number of units sold. The sales of "dirty" skis like the Superjet are so small compared to the sales of uber "clean" 4 stroke skis that Yamaha is allowed to continue selling the Superjet in most of the US.

It is the last year for the GP1300R and Yamaha is not shy about telling people that.

Aaron

your right, the emissions are actually based on the fleet as a whole not each individual one so all ski's combined have to meet a certain number or rating for emissions, so they could have all the fourstrokes be burning clean as hell and not have to worry about one dirty twostroke in the fleet because they would still fall under that certain emissions number or rating for the entire fleet.

I have heard this before as well
I was also away racing this wekeend and i was talking to the pwc marketing manager in yamaha australia
He assured me this was not the end of the two stroke superjet
He knew wat they were up to till about 2011
but no matter how much beer / alchol i fed him he was tight lipped
He did make a comment like
do you think they redesigned an 1800 engine with out some upgrades in mind
In other words they have heaps in store for that 1800

Yamaha isn't going to stop making the 701 engine. The R&D is paid for. It's a cash cow for yamaha. They can just keep selling the same design to people for years and people will just keep buying them. Look how they've done it... One hull design for like 8 years, another for like 10 years. One engine design for about 6 years, another for about 12 years. Why change it? It costs nothing to cast an engine into a mold you've already produced. As long as Yamaha can make money off the 701, they will sell it. There's no investment expenses. The design is paid for.

you're giving yamaha too much credit. they're much more frugal than that.

½ hull unchanged in 18 years. cylinder unchanged for 13 years. crank unchanged for 19 years. same pump for 19 years. pretty much the same electronics for 19 years.

61x cylinder was in the blaster in 93

i think yamaha atleast must increase the engine power ,. 760 insted of 701 would be great , as they did in the limited 06 rius edition .. now days people need more power than before ..

the 08 is more powerfull. it has more compression than before and the stainless prop makes it feel better too.

Ya, thats funny about the SS impeller. You go to yamaha.com and look at the specs and it still says "3-Blade, Aluminum (13/16 pitch)".

You'd think they would update that stuff!

I see some advantages to a direct injected 701.
Much better economy
= smaller fuel tank
= more room under hood
= lighter weight
= way less vibration

But must be easy to remap for mods.
emmisions.....I really dont care that much.... too small of a market.
