2010 Havasu WF location rumors

My home away from home.
Yesterday my buddies wife calls me after she talked to her time share thing gal in Havasu. She was trying to get us set up for this years WF's. The gal she talked to about the time share said they (Town of Havasu) are talking about not holding WF at Havasu anymore, due to lack of revenue from the event.

Another member mentioned to me today on the phone, that he heard rumor of it moving to the East coast?

Jet ski, skin, warm weather, warm water, skin, friends etc...

What's the word fellas?

Squash the rumor. Talked to Jim Russel at ijsba and he said it is on for Havasuand isn't leaving Havasu. Sorry for the drama fellas...

I don't know... I'm seriously bummed. Hopefully there's something we can do about it.

And hopefully someone who knows something will chime in.

edit: I just emailed the Havasu Chamber of Commerce. I'll post up whatever I hear.

Not happening. The IJSBA has a 5 year contract with Crazy Horse and I 'm sure there are 2-3 more years on that contract. It was just a couple years ago that contract was set up. It wont be moving for awhile anyways.

PM #1Fan over on PWCToday.com she will tell you all for sure.

Haha, lack of revenue from the event??? Thats ridiculous. Think of all the house rentals, hotels, fuel, food, etc., the WF brings in. Many People show up a full month before the WF.

The Town of Havasu does not put on the World Finals. The IJSBA does.

I'll do that and post back.

Agreed on the revenue comment she gave... That made no sense at all.

I never understood having a water sport competition in the middle of the desert with the closest airport over 3 hours away. Hey, but the London Bridge is there???..??? ha ha ha...

It should be here in Daytona Beach Florida at the Speedway. Lake Loyd would be perfect and then you could add a surf comp too... Everything is built in and the airport is literally next door. Could it be any easier?? Everyone could camp in the infield and there are 5000 restaurants and bars in a square mile, not to mention the places inside the Speedway.

How big is that lake inside the infield, I was watching the racing few weeks back and a guy was wakeboarding in there but it did not look very big.

But Tona would be a good location or somewhere in central florida.

I think it's big enough...

To be honest, I love the town of Havasu, it is a cool little site. But, the event could use a good change of location and Daytona would be awesome. Think about it. What Nick said earlier was dead on, AND Disney is only an hour away. This would make the event a lot more family friendly. It would also give the international racers and freestylers a second reason for traveling half way across the world.

Just my opinion.

That would be AWESOME. Looks like a prefect location for a flatwater comp, with the surf right down the road. Perfect match. I also agree with this drawing more people having the option of surf, location, airport, etc. Probably lose a lot of people who drive from out west, but it would also gain a ton of people who would drive from the east. I know I would.

It'd be a really lame idea to move the World Finals to the East Coast, because all of the National stops are on the Easy coast. The sport would lose a lot of racers from the West Coast if the world finals would move to the east. We don't have any actual regional promoters here on the west coast. We've got the DJSA racing, but it's not an APBA/ IJSBA sanctioned event, it's a nonprofit organization, so it's all racing for fun. It'd be a bad idea to move the WF's to the east.

That excuse is lame. Blame your promoters for that. It does shock me that the racing is larger here on the East Coast. Use to be it was bigger out west. It may make more sense to have it in the East, you may actually get more people from the East to go. I know I would. The only year I was going to go was the same year we found out we were expecting our little girl. So we chose not to go due to expense.
