My choice may get disqualified because it is not a "powersport" helmet, but at least it is made to be used in water, which is a big plus. It lacks many of the 'cons' that you guys list on your powersport helmets. Very light, won't absorb a drop of water, full cage, great field of vision, stainless hardware. Only downside is that it is not 'cool' looking.

Well, I know that we are approaching the end of 2015 but I think this review section for helmets can still hold its own for relevancy. When I put together this thread I was on the list to purchase a Specialized Dissident Comp downhill mountain bike helmet. Well, although I was not able to get out on the water as much as I wanted to this year, I can say that for the times I did get out this helmet took everything I could throw at it. The peak stayed together, the padding held up flawlessly, and the helmet felt very comfy throughout the entire ride every time. I typically get about 2 1/2 hours give or take 15-20 minutes depending on conditions, and not once did I feel like this helmet was getting heavy or uncomfortable. I would definitely recommend this helmet as being a solid, worthwhile purchase. Another nice thing is that the helmet actually covers your face much to the same extent as a full on motocross helmet. I have tried on a few other downhill helmets, but the size they recommended for the measurement of my pumpkin were not very consistent. I should have a medium size helmet, but the others I tried on felt like they rode high on the jaw line exposing the chin and jaw, this Specialized helmet was bang on. Proper full coverage, and the sizing for the measurement was accurate. Great helmet, absolutely zero regrets about this purchase.

any info on the jet pilot helmet? i would assume it would be very waterspouts specific,,,, on the other hand its not made by a helmet company so it could be junk. with some JP stickers

That's a nice Giro 700, what about fitment? Did the size the charts recommend fit you accordingly? Did they call for a medium but you had to go up to a large? I find that is the most common issue with sizing from one company to another. Also, did it cover your jaw line fully or ride a bit high exposing it somewhat? I tried on a Bell helmet last year and found that it was a great fit for comfort, but sat way too high leaving my jaw a bit exposed.

well since i could not find any info on the jet pilot i decided to order one from france!!! when it arrives (hopefully soon) i will do a full review on it. and will determine if its water sport specific. or just a "toys r us" helmet with cool graphics. i have a few other helmets to compare to so its should be interesting.

The Giro has been my steady helmet for the last few seasons. I'm a tweeter for med/large. I went with a medium and it fits snug but padded well. Zero complaints. Covers my chin. I ran a Bell ballistic helmet for nearly 5 years and it worked but padding was minimal and it rode high on me. I personally ditch the visors due to water entry's dragging my head backwards. I picked mine up for less than $100 on a deal. Good luck. Anything is better than going without.

Couldn't find a good shot with it on but it covers well.

Have been wearing my 661 for the last couple years. The helmet itself is great but the hardware a rusted quickly. Recently the strap broke off as the hardware rusted. Otherwise I really liked it a lot.

My wife felt I needed an upgrade to a real helmet and not a downhill helmet so she bought me a Shoei VFX for Christmas.

Have been wearing my 661 for the last couple years. The helmet itself is great but the mouthpiece rusted quickly. Recently the strap broke off as the hardware rusted and the liner Velcro is shot. Otherwise I really liked it a lot and it worked great for a couple seasons of regular use.

My wife felt I needed an upgrade to a real helmet and not a downhill helmet so she bought me a Shoei VFX for Christmas. It is crazy comfortable and feels very secure. I'm hoping it will last a long time given the price tag.

I have still been using my Specialized Dissident helmet and quit like it. It has held up very well other than the peak. The peak itself is still solid, but the little tab on the underside where it secures the peak to the shell broke. I've had that happen with HJC though. All I did was make a little spacer and permanent fix it in place with a stainless socket head cap screw. Other little issues are the screen in the mouth guard pops free but pushes back into place no problem. Last thing are the rivets, they are starting to rust a touch. Still comfy, still solid, still light :)
