2014 Yamaha superjet racers license needed to buy?

I called my local dealer to talk to him about purchasing a 2014 superjet and he told me I needed my racers license otherwise I wouldn’t be able to purchase one. He then told me he had plenty of 2013’s that you don’t need a license to buy. Is this guy just trying to sell me a leftover 2013 because I haven’t seen anywhere that states that you need a racers license to get one.

i was wondering this as well. i called a dealer today about a 2013 and he mentioned that he had a '13 and a '14 but he didnt mention anything about needing a racing license to buy the 14. but i did notice that it said for race purpose only. i read on a different thread that possibly the reason for them writing that was to keep them from having to offer a warranty on the ski... but i really didnt want to buy a 14 ski and not be able to register it.

nope, no race license needed to buy. Yamaha lists certain items as "race" or "competition" only so that they don't have to offer any sort of warrantee. At least that's what my dealer told me. Maybe they do that since their products fall apart now???? Oh I forgot, according to everyone else, I just got a lemon. worst 9k I ever spent snowracer. Consider avoiding my same mistake. Plenty of used AM stuff that is bulletproof out there.

Well I guess I may be exaggerating but all my paint is cracking, which may not be a big deal to everyone else on here, but for me it was a huge disappointment. I know its only cosmetic but it was one of my biggest purchases, even more than the vehicle I drive. I had hoped to have it last for quite a long time. I wash and wax it after every outing. its always stored inside. I baby the thing. then, after a few months it looked worse than my friends 96 RN that has been stored outside and abused its whole life. I'll try and find the thread with the pics and I'll PM you. I don't want to hijack this thread. Back on topic. Sorry OP

I bought a 2014 last night and they needed the race number to give to Yamaha. The lady at IJSBA said it was due to them getting in trouble with the EPA. I signed up yesterday morning and was able to get my racer number this morning to finish up the paper work. It was only $45 so it isn't a big deal. It sounds like some dealers may be comfortable with not giving the number so it may depend on who you work with. There was no issue with registering the ski with the state.

Have a '13 purchased at the end of 2013. Same sticker on it as the '14 sitting next to it "for race purposes only" on the show room floor. Dealer didn't ask about the race license. The dealer did remind me multiple times that the ski does not come with a warranty. In Missouri, where 2 strokes are not the "devil," the licensing body didn't pay attention/care about the year and allowed me to register it. Prior to this occurring, I was prepared to buy the license if needed. In relation to the reliability/warranty--I have 50 hours on the ski and have never had any issues. I ride the hell out of it on a small river and nearby lake.

Same here. They told me I needed the license to buy the 2014 SJ. I got a good deal on mine so $45 wasn't a deal killer. You do it all online. Takes a matter of minutes.

I was talking with the guy that owns the dealership I worked at moons ago about SJ's over Xmas and he said the same thing about needing a race number. His grandson has a number and he just used that last time he sold one. Guess it doesn't have to be "your" number.
