I decided to swap into a Hurricane Carbon C2 Hull. I love my superfreak (for sale!), I have really enjoyed it over the past few years but wanted to build something a little more flatwater dedicated, since that's where I am 99% of the time.

I got this hull off of the forum. It's 81", so five inches shorter than my freak. I haven't weighed it yet, but it should come in 20-30lbs lighter than it as well.

We can pretty much ride year round here, so I'm not in a hurry to get it running. Most of my friends were just saying to throw it together and go, but I really didn't like the paint colors. There were also things I wanted to fix, like the hydroturf, and a couple small body issues here and there. It may have been easier to have just ordered a new one from Hurricane Industries, but even with painting it I am saving quite a bit of money over new.

I wanted a really jazzy paint job or wrap, but I'm not really creative like that, so I'm keeping it simple instead. Black gelcoat on the bottom, white on top, probably will accent with red. I know a guy through work who does great paint, and he graciously offered to do my ski in his free time. So here's my first update.

It'll never be this nice on the bottom again lol

This will be getting the set up right out of my SF, which was a simple 735cc/bpipe/ada head with stock pump and 10/16 prop. Only thing changing is a kart tank instead of OEM, just to get some more room.

Good luck with getting Dk Jr to help with graphics. I gave up and called Braap Graphix in Florida. Same guy that does all the xscream skis.

Well poop. At this point all I'm asking for is something they'd just have to change the colors on so hopefully they'll get back to me. I'll hit them up after the WF frenzy dies down.

Spent a bit of time putting some of the old hardware back on;

I ditched the duckbills and installed versi plugs. I used stainless screws with black painted tops for stealth. lolz. A bead of 5200 sealant should keep things nice and dry. I hate 5200 like I hate RTV. It doesn't matter how careful I am that sh%t. gets. everywhere. I may as well just squeeze it into my palms and rub it between my hands like soap before I get started - get that out of the way you know?

Going to place an order with McMaster Carr on Monday, planning on jazzing up the engine bay with some fresh stainless. Plus I need midshaft & pump bolts anyway so I'm kind of stuck for now.

mighty2stroke how was the versa plugs fit over the existing duckbill holes ? i am considering the change .

Just fine. I had the body shop fill the screw holes from the duckbills so I didn't have to worry about those. The ID of the versi plugs is smaller than the outlet holes on the hull, but I don't think that matters too much. I will be running a bilge also so between both it should be plenty dry.

Did you end up getting any kind of graphics? I am in the middle of doing mine and wondering where to get them from

I am waiting to hear back from Hurricane Industries...trying to give them some time since they are at WF. If I can't work it out with them I'm going to use that place that Jmew03 recommended (assuming he has a template for a hurricane).

Ok. Finally had some free time this weekend to work on it. Man, the time is just getting away from me lately I swear.

Anyway. Ordered a few things from blowsion (fittings, bilge bracket, turf). Bilge bracket was for an SJ. I was hoping it'd fit out of convenience, but the hurricane has just a little bit less room between the midshaft housing and the floor, so it was a no-go. While I do have solid works and a plasma cutter, I didn't think it was worth the time to make a bracket, so I just used 5200 and attached it to the bottom of the hull (it will have a lot of time to dry before it's ready anyway).

I spray bombed the inserts for the hurricane holds. The tape lines aren't perfect bc those areas will be covered anyway either by turf or the mounting plate. But I didn't want white holes poking through on the slots that aren't used.

I had the mounting plates for the holds, and the foot holds themselves, hydrodipped in carbon fiber. I think it will look neat.

I got in touch with Derrick at Hurricane Ind. now that they are back from WF. He drew up a rendering for me, I am pretty excited. My last couple of skis have been very neutral, so I wanted some color this time. I also ordered a kart tank cradle from them. Hopefully these items will be in this week.

I don't know what to do on the turf yet. I already had a roll of black diamond I found in my storage unit (score!). I also purchased some black with red diamond though. I will probably wait until I have the graphics on to decide. The red/black might be too overwhelming with the graphics I think.

Last week I got the pump in. I didn't realize that my previous pump seal went with the hull I just sold, lol. The RTV and it became one I guess and I didn't notice when I took it off, so had to wait for one to come in. The pump just needed a little spacing on the back two bolts.

Also got the used "unicorn" X Scream pole installed that I got from @Scraggly . I adjusted it all the way out but it may end up being too short for me (I'm 5'3"). I will have to ride and see. I do not like the look of the washers/screws on it that mount the chinpad, so I plan to cut something different out to mount it instead. Not sure what though. I'm using stock steering with this and had to machine the mounting hole for the turnplate out to make it fit. Got the throttle/steering/trim ran.

I put the engine in tonight as well. I've measured it like five times but it doesn't seem to need any shims which seems weird or lucky. I am using new couch mounts that I got from @THRUST. I heard they work better and require less shimming in the hurricane so maybe that's it.

I bought a used kart tank from @Ducky and painted it black. I know you can't see the level as easy but I don't really care. I did it to my last tank also, I just think it looks cleaner. These tanks yellow so fast anyway. I decided to go with the kart tank since I likely won't take any long lake trips with this ski anyway (have my '14 SJ for that). I'm glad to have extra room to work.

I have the battery where I'd like to mount it, need to order in some inserts now and glass them in. I'm using the stock waterbox. How do you guys typically mount those - just some nutserts/rubber straps like from the factory?

So that's where I'm at now. I keep saying I hope it will be ready in the next two weeks but at this rate I'll be lucky to make Daytona, HA!

Had to fix it for you :)

Looks good kelly!

Ha, I stopped correcting people a long time ago!
