Freestyle 2016 MAXX w/ TPE Build

The build is finally done. Overall, the ski was a dream to build. Honestly everything lined up perfect. No heavy modification for any parts. I am stoked on the build and cant wait to ride it.

I would just like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who helped me throughout the build, firstly Dad for putting in hours of shed time making sure everything is perfect and my girlfriend Courtney for justifying the shed time and buying me the 155 skat prop! Also, Brisbane Watercraft by helping me fill the gaps in between my parts bench and the completed ski and for all his knowledge and my endless stupid questions and for flawlessly building my engines everytime. Freeride Innovations for always helping me out whether its with this build or my surf ski, supplying the most killer pole setup including matching trim and throttle levers, steering, bars and also bilge switch, Kenny keepers and a few other bits here and there. Random Performance for supplying the most awesome CNC’d flywheel ive even seen and making sure there is no gaps being stolen between my engine and engine mounts. True Performance Engineering for helping me out with the TNT Pipe setup and making sure that my 964 was in perfect condition for the build. Dave from 701 Industries for honestly being a legend and savior through the build and supplying the unbreakable 701 Industries Nozzle, surf plugs, tank straps and a custom 1 off trim that has a ridiculous amount of throw. And Jetpilot for keeping me afloat and clothed when im riding the thing. Without you guys the build would have not been possible and im so grateful that you guys have been so generous and helpful throughout the whole build.

Now I guess there is nothing else to do then ride!

FIRST RIDE (Run in and Tune).

We took the ski down fir its first ride to a local spot that’s pretty shallow so no intensions in doing any tricks, just seeing how the 50mm maxx carbs went with the 964. We have a spare set of 46’s at home so if it doesn’t work out we always have a backup plan.

Holy poop is all I can say. We started at 135L 135H with 2.3 N&S’s and 18-19psi pop and the ski the second it went in the water was insane in respect to being a mild setup due to stock electrics. The hull is soooooooooooo much fun. So small, although handles really well. Slides when you want it to slide but surprised me in respect to how well it can actually rail. The TNT pipe makes the engine without a doubt a doubt a completely different engine to when it was in my surf boat with a b-pipe. I’m actually so impressed.

Great write up, ski looks awesome. :)
Thanks Adz! By the looks of your photo your LSP looks awesome too, good motor choice!

Looks great! Hey is that a 9.5L tank? What the length on the 701 industries tank straps?
Hey SkiPro, the tank is actually 7.5L (Go Kart Tank).
Dave from 701 Industries makes a huge range of tank straps!

I pulled that straight off his website. If he doesn't have the strap you need you're not measuring correctly haha ;)!

nice build. cant wait to see it in action.

thanks Jax, ill post up a video on friday!

Damn bud...that is one of the best build write ups I have read. Enjoy the ski...looks like a blast!

cheers iangdesign, my aim was to give the most honest representation of the ski. I wasn't afraid to fault it but the thing is i really can't!

Very nice write up. Post up some footage!

thanks smitty, footage will be up friday! it will be my first time on a flatware ski so don't judge me if I'm crap hahaha!!

Nice write up. Enjoyed reading it.

much appreciated Big Kahuna, makes the write up worth it :)

hey guys and gals,

as promised I went for my first proper ride today and got some footage. Overall i love the ski. For a stock stroke stock electrics setup the thing hammers. My mate of 6 foot 9" even idol flipped it (no wake). being my first ever flatwater flips and stuff i realise its not the most stylish, but i having a go and having fun whilst doing so, right?

Please, any tips in regard to my riding is appreciated and I'm more than happy to listen.

Zane

Excellent write up. I'll be assembling a Bun pro UFO hull very soon. Should be a very similar as far as assembly, this helps a ton!!
I have a question already. How does the pump mate to the shoe with no seal? I have identical parts, his shoe and pump. Did you just silicone the two pieces and bolt it up?

Great thread and nice build Zane. It might be me, but does it look like or sound like you could "tighten" up your pump setup a bit (higher pitch or smaller exit nozzle dia). Anyway thumbs up :)

Hei Zane

Build lookes good you got one hell off a deal, i was the one with orther maxx hull build from 2014. After seeing you build i have been scratching my head about the exhaust issues i hade. But after looking more closely att your pics it seemes your midshaft was mowed forwert, witch alows the chamber too clear the hull. I think you a right the PFP Will fit with AM waterbox, maybe maxx took notish and changed it. Att the same time you get alot more room on the back of the engine, and your breather tubes seemes too clear alot better. Can you post a pic off your hood liner ??? i hade a lot off water coming in from not running tubes have changed it now. A bit envy about you maxx hull lookes good

This is correct ADDict, although maxx is confident no sealant is required i did run a line of sikaflex around it just incase. Defernatly put some photos of the BUN up, i hope its as easy for you to build as this!

@stefan

hey mate thanks for your help, the exit nozzle is matched to the reduction nozzle and I'm pushing a 7/15 which is similar to what some blokes use behind DASA 1000's over here so thats why i bought one. I do agree i could push an 8/16, but I've run out of funds so the 7/15 will have to do for a while!
