2022 FX1 maybe the last one?

Looks like everything is lining up nicely! If you don't mind me asking, how'd you get your hands on this hull? Did Tom21 still have these sitting around for sale? I have an FX1 and love it, but I just wish it had a 144mm pump and wider tray. It looks like these Tom21 hulls addressed all of the shortcomings of the stock FX1.

Just a few of these hulls were made by Tom.He probably still has the molds.

My friend Franky FX had it for years and decided to let it go. It’s not without its shortcomings. Still had to widen the tray, and it was set up for FX1 driveshaft so had to reset pump mounts and use a pump extension Franky made.

I had given Tom a deposit on one years ago when he was developing them, he ended up returning my deposit so I had forgotten all about it.

Surprisingly went to local tag office and walked out with a title and registration for $25!

I think this is the ski that the Tom21 FX is fashioned from. It was for sale at the 2012 Daytona freeride, and he was letting guys test ride it...

First test ride was in crappy chop but felt good, turns extremely quick with pump set back, hits hard and faster than I was expecting. Can’t wait for some clean waves to get an accurate ride report. Put a gusset under ride plate, the way it cantilevered out looked vulnerable. Had to use OEM front latch as this hull has a large raised lip inside hood seal, good idea. Franky FX made a pump spacer so it uses a SJ drive shaft!

Is this the same one as in the first post of this thread? A year on the job might have gotten pretty tired of it. It's great that you're already at the finish line, and have started testing.

Yes same ski, been working on it 2 years. These One-offs don’t just bolt together. This made stripping and rebuilding a regular ski seem like a walk in the park!

It must be time-consuming. If you still have to go to job, you can do these ski for 5 years.

Ride report; felt like it rode nose down, wanted to pearl coming off a wave, and didn’t want to do reentries. Shortening ride plate helped a little but cutting the big 3” wings off from tubbies to tail made all the difference in the world in the surf. Allows the tail to ride deeper and is much more turntable, before it wanted to ride flat. Lighter hull does feel good in surf and the tunnel/pump setup pulls like it’s got a big motor. No need some tray time.

So, would you suggest the Tom 21 longer tubbies or the Blowsion Destroyer shorter tubbies?

I prefer the bigger “chubbies “ given to me by a FX Mafia friend and bottom mounted flush with bottom of hull, the bigger ones brought a new level of forgiveness in the surf, the handling problem came from these huge wings/splash guards that prevented tail from riding deeper into the wave.
I had Tom 21 tubbies on a previous FX and liked them, but now I’m spoiled with the chubbies, considering we have smaller, softer surf here in Florida!

l resemble that fact too. @wydopen suggested that l fill the concave between the hull and tubbies. Mine are @tom21 tubbies.
And will want to try also cutting the wings at an angle. Thanks for that bit of info @SALTDOG ! Kind of looks like what Tem did on the badass hulls

Anything is better than nothing. You've been asking about them for a long time. Just put some on, you will regret not doing it sooner...

You called me on that. I have had my Tom 21 tubbies sitting in a box to be installed for over a year now.

I put tubbies on like Franks hot sauce, I put that poop on everything , haven't regretted putting them on anything so far.

Only because you also like Frank's RedHot sauce, I will consider your installation advice @WFO Speedracer. I actually ordered my Tom 21 tubbies from Tom with the bolt on holes. But I would have to pull the engine to install them. And probably would end up epoxying the edges and any gaps anyway. So, I might as well just plaster them on from the outside. What is your secret epoxy sauce for adhering them?
