3 new racers

Hi, two friends and I started really getting into jet skiing this year. I have a stock 1985 js550 with a westcoast intake grate and ride plate. One of my friends has the exact same, and my last friend has an older ('89?) 550/650 conversion ski. Long story short is that we want to try some racing next season nothing too serious but just for fun. My questions are these: can we race at 16? Are there stock 550 classes at every ijsba race? What would the 550/650 be racing against? And what would we need? I'm guessing we would need: helmets, lanyards, boots, and bow eye tow strap. We live in Minnetonka Mn, and I was thinking a good place to start would be the ijsba Great Lakes Watercross Lake Series. Any suggestions, would be greatly appreciated.
