335's Saturday afternoon rant...

RANT:  I've hardly ridden this year and haven't since the P'Cola ride where I didn't get to ride much anyway because of a) blown head o-rings, followed by b) out-of-synch carbs.

So I finally got off my arse and started wrenching fixing all kinds of little things in the process that didn't require removing the engine.

a) replace bilge pump
b) replace bilge pump switch
c) reset Advent ignition to proper curve via Chucky and Radney
d) replace bent 0-degree bars (they were like -1 degree)
e) replace faded red spark plug covers with black covers
f) replace faded red cooling hoses with black hoses
g) replace faded greenish fuel lines with new red fuel line
h) replace fuel filters (duh)
i) install X-Metal risers to carbs

There might have been other things that I did, but the point is I should have been smart enough to go ahead and yank the engine at this point. Why, you might ask....

I have had a broken girdle case stud on the rear carb-side for awhile. I knew it needed to be taken care of but I always just put it off because the engine ran fine 99% of the time---it's a "Chucky/TeamScream" motor after all. :Banane09: I figured, hey, I just fixed all the other little crap I should be fine. :bad3:

Between the fuel lines, filters, carbs w/gaskets, and a "potentially" leaking rear seal, can anyone guess what happens when I fire it up?!?

RANT OVER!!! :beerchug:

I'm going to have one more beer and get started doing it the way I should have in the first place:

a) yank the engine
b) pressure test it and identify leak(s)
c) repair leaks
d) re-install engine
e) ride

:beerchug: Thank you for listening.......eeerrrrrrr, reading! :pancake:

D-G are completely optional

broken girdle studs kill cylinders--I speak from experience :Banane26:

LPW Lameys don't require girdled heads. LOL

Sorry to hear of all the fun-as you well know-I have been there and done that! It tends to wear on your last nerve after a while.

ah yes...its the ever looming "save 20 minutes and $50 to end up spending hours and hundreds to make it right" trap...we've all been there to some degree or another.

I like the ol 'time trap' myself. Hey, my new hood is here-I'm gonna take 20 minutes and go put it on! 8 days later it's on and finally fits right. Hey, I'm gonna go do this 20 minute mod-20 weeks later it's finally done. LOL

I can't wait to get my [insert any fiberglass blowsion product] in. I'm gonna get it out of the box and put it on the ski.

A week later trying to iron out fitment issues.

Sounds like my rrp. I thought for sure it would take me a full day to get it put on....well it was more like 4 days or so. I lost track of how much time I spent on this pile after 3 days.

I forgot all about your aftermarket issues. LOL

You would think that I would be in a rush to finnish my project. All I have to do is put the motor in , wire the msd ,pipe ,tank , fuel and cooling lines ,then turf . O wait I forgot I have to take every thing back off to get the paint done tomorrow. 1 step forward 2 steps back. I will be tuning this weekend with out fail or the next. Maybe the third week in june certainly no later than july 4'th .

No he will not!
I like 335, he's a good dude! And think about it, a run away motor is better than your handlepole being the only thing keeping your hood from flying across the bay....

What's the story?

I had a very small amount of gas spill into the bilge and a chafed wire from the start/stop switch rubbing against the cylinder. (I knew about the gas, not the wire) When I hit the button, the gas ignited and blew my hood off. Damaged the hood, bent the hood hooks, and trashed the lock.

This was several years ago on my Wamilton's ski...
