4 stroke vs 2 stroke

2-stroke in the woods- lighter, easy starting, does not over heat as easily, less engine brake flows better.

4-stroke on most motocross tracks. I loved my kx250f for moto and I just picked up an 09 yz250f thats getting a 290 big bore. For me the 450s are more bike than I need and end up slowing me down. I like ringing the crap out of the 250s

4-stroke on the ice. The bigger the better. I currently ride a Husky 510 super moto set up for ice racing ( and SM in the summer of course!)

my $.02

i'm for the 4 strokes. my ktm 450 is easier to through around in the woods then any of my previous two strokes. it's just the best all around bike i've ever been on. power everywhere. it also starts first kick every time. i just took it out for the first time in two months fired up first kick.

but thanks for the replies :)

i ride a 2 smoke yz250 now and love it. its cheaper to own and maintain, and on trails and in the desert its a great bike....i think i may have been faster on my old crf, but the thought of blowing it up scared$ me...on a mx track most guysneed a four stroke to be competitive

Ride what is damaged less than your other ride and starts after a few kicks at least.

if i were serious about mx/racing.. id be on a 4 stroke again...

now that i just ride for the fun of it, i cant tell you how much fun it is to whip a 2 stroke around the track... i'm still riding my yz125 (and im 200lb+!) and i can still clear every table, camelback/stepdown, and triple on the track on that thing!

the 2 stroke will make you a better ride because you cant afford to fall off the pipe, you have to keep it in the powerband and make sure your timing is right, corner entry speed is good, corner exit speed is good, ..etc...

although im able to hit every jump on the track.... if i dont hit the corner before the jumps JUST RIGHT, i have to back off...

so, the 2 stroke is funner for me personally, but, if youre just learning, a four stroke might help you stay out of trouble! you can be a little sloppier and still know you got that power right there waiting for you if you :):):):):) something up.

i run vp110 and 927 in my 125... smells sweet.. i only burn about 3 gallons a day... what a difference between all the other things (boats , jetskiis, etc)!!!

heres a pic of my whip from last week! braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap!

I was 2 strokes for life until I bought a 4 Stroke. I love my 4 strokes & would never go back. I have a YZ426 & CRF450 and ride 90% MX only trails when I have to....

2 stroke for life. you work harder on a 2 stroke and you will never be able to replace the power of a kx250. match up a kx500 vs a yz450 or crf450. they started racing 4 stroke dirtbikes cause of emissons

it take twice the cc's just sayn, i feel real top heavy on a new 4 strokes. they feel real tall to me. i raced 125cc b class for 3years, then stepped up to the 250. the 4stroke is a nice bike but pound 4 pound the 2stroke wins every time in my book. 2 strokes made the sport anyhow.

i got love for the 4stroke on an mx track.. if i raced, thats what i would ride..

however, gotta love the sound, look, and feel of a 2 stroke on the track.. i cant comment on the trails stuff. i dont ride trails cause i like to ride more than just in 1st gear, stop at the tree, turn, and repeat. :)

I would like to ride a cr500 (2 stroke). Rocking a cr250 now. The late model 4 strokes just kill it, but hell they should they got double the cc.

If your going to get a late model mx 4 stroke and your just mucking around, go with a 450, the damn 250 have a ton more engine maintenance.
