44mm carb questions

just got back into the sport after about 3 years out. put a circus together with parts from this site. (thanks to the members). few weeks riding and I'm experiencing an issue I've had in the past. 701 61x cases, some port work, 84mm bore, dual 44s. when i flop the ski or wipe out hard enough to roll it on the side , carbs seem loaded up when i restart and go to take off. some times its not bad, sometimes i hold it WOT for 20 seconds to clear up. Seems like an MSD enhancer was better in the past than stock cdi. carbs need rebuilt? I've had motor setups that do it, and some that didn't. been so long and can't remember. any help would be appreciated!

taking in water through carbs? i have prok F/a w screens. i do get some water in engine compartment but its not anything more than any other ski I've had. don't know the shape of the reeds, could be chipped. none the less it runs good until its upside down or on its side, seems the longer it upside down or on its side the worse it is making me think its fuel.

I meant, your taking in water at your hood seal, the motor is creating a huge vacuum and sucking water in. If you have screens then this should stop most of it, but not all. That makes me think it is your needle and seats.........

I would check the N/S and raise the popoff a notch. I had a square nose that would not want to clean up with an 80g-2.0 and 130 pilot. It was perfect with a 115g spring.

went to ride the ski today and noticed the front carb was dripping fuel at the bowl. ordered rebuild kits, they say they come with all options for springs. ill try the 115g when i put it back together,

2.0 115g
115p
130m.

thats what ill try and seems close to what other were running based on the "carb tuning data base"

The pilot and popoff are very interconnected. Changing popoff will directly affect pilot jet requirement and where the bottom screw needs to be for correct idle mixture. Set the bottom screws on the trailer, close them until the engine races and open until it slows back down. They could end up anywhere between 1/2 to 1.5 turns depending on popoff. Determine the pilot by holding the ski at the edge of planing for several seconds then snap it open. Ideally the engine will have a slight four/cycle sputter and respond well. Usually if the engine runs clean at this speed response will suffer. Most people err to the rich side which means lots of part throttle chugging but makes for good response in most cases.
