Why are the Kawi versions of the SBN gold color not painted but coated with something else?
And the Yamaha version of the same SBN painted black?

I hate the black paint. It peels when you are rebuilding the carbs and it gets everywhere.

The 44 SBN was never used on stock Kawasakis. The Piston port 550 used round pump 44s and the reed engines used a keihin 38. Aftermarket SBN44s are painted either black or gold. They come with different jets. Singles carbs always need a larger main jet because of lower peak vacuum. Quarter throttle is where the pilot is working so see how it responds after holding it there for several seconds. It should be fourcycling a little for best respnse. The main jet and top screw are in the same circuit so you can see if the main is too rich or lean by adjusting the top screw. The main jet will be correct when you can make the engine run worse by opening or closing the top screw excessively. Dual carbs always accelerate better than a single. Once a single gets large enough it wont hold a consistent full throttle mixture setting.
