I was cleaning out my garage and found what appeared to be another old 440 engine, after cleaning it up and taking a closer look I found that it was my dads old racing engine from his 440 from back in the 80ies. Ive decided to put together a new 440 with this beast in it. As soon as I get it rebuilt i will have some sweet pictures! ive never really heard of a 474 anyone have any experience? or at least seen one/ know anything about them haha.

The 440 big bore sleeves were pretty cool back then, never really had allot of experience with them. I usually bought the aluminum 440 cylinders and dropped 550 sleeves into them due to the fact that the 550 were all cast in sleeves. Have fun!

Haha, been a long time since I heard of a 474!

Wiseco used to make a 474 piston kit. I ran one before 550's were invented.

From memory, you used the early Aluminium cylinder and no re-sleeve was required.

I ported mine to some specs my dads buddy gave me with a bur in an electric drill. I was 12 yrs old. It went hard with a pressed steel pjs pipe, single side draught 40mm Keihin and this new fangled bronze impeller that had overlapping blades and was made by an unheard of company called skat trak.

last yr me and my dad just rebuilt his old race boat with the aluminum 474 and put msd total loss in it. he ran alittle alcohol/gasoline mix and ovaled the cylinders so we got a used jug and reported and re-did the hole motor and its a fast little boat that like high rpms. our ignition is set at 9000 and its hitting the rev limiter sometimes going down the lake. but i still like my SJ batter.
