300/440/550 550 pump wont go on

this this is really startin to get to me
took off the pump and changed the impeller
now im trying to put my pump back in the bastard wont slide all the way in, the splines are engaging a little bit but i only have 3/4-to 1" until the bolt holes line up and it just wont go any farther

is there something im not thinking about or some trick or something?

You may have installed a wrong impeller in the pump. I bought a 650 impeller and installed it in a 650 pump, and trying to install it in a TS it would not go on.
Ended up finding out I had a 750 impeller.
I suggest you take the impeller back out, place both impellers on a table and start comparing - that's all I can offer at this time.

sometimes the grease hyrdo-locks the pump and prevents it from sliding in. Try taking the grease fitting out of the rear of the pump and see if it will slide in then. That will allow some grease to escape out of the rear of the pump......give it a try if you're still stuck.

use your feet and kick the ******** out of it. just try a little harder, slam it back and forth till it goes in. worked for me

there are 1 or 2 orings in the pump shaft that may be out of the groove.check this.removing the rear grease fitting will not do a thing as the pump is sealed from the shaft.
check for too much grease on the shaft as well.

You need to turn the driveshaft slightly as you push it in.

True 'dat..........I was thinking of 440 pump issues. :twak:

oh forgot to post up, i got it on, just spent like 15 mins with a small file working on the splines, looks like i pulled the tool out a bit while it was still spinning and boogered up the splines just a bit,

then i did the kick the ******** out of it method, and now its on haha
