300/440/550 550 Reed motor

When did they start making 550 reed motor's? I have a 1990 and a 1993 550sx are they both reed? Also what are the differences between these two years. Thank you

Piston port motor is not even in the same ballpark. ..

I had a 91 limited FPP Half Pipe, keihin 42mm carb with mariner 42mm manifold. bypassed the rev limiter. 15.5 Skat prop. Friend had an 89 550 with ported Piston Port, dual 38's, Total Loss, PJS full race pipe.. He was no faster.
