Well after taking 5 years off from this ski, I figured I would start tinkering on it and drop in a 650 engine. The rest of the ski I re-enforced, refoamed, foot holds installed, and gone thru from top to bottom and painted. The 550 engine just didn't have the power but still ran good. This past weekend I picked up the ski from my buddy who had been storing it. We went thru all of his parts and came up with a pipe, a 650engine in perfect shape and misc. parts here and there. The only thing I am lacking is a carb and maybe a better pipe. I was planning on a sbn44 carb. Any thoughts?

before you do the conversion, your beefy 550 motor probably had MORE power and throttle response than that 650 is going to have with that puny 28mm carb and small restrictive pipe manifold. before you continue, get a pipe, west coast, pjs, kerker, team butch, ext, and a sbn44 carb and intake setup. you will not be pleased running the stock 650 setup, and with the aftermarket pipe be prepared to do some glass work on the left side to make room for the new much needed pipe.

YES you NEED a pipe and a carb setup

Still ordering parts: got a new sbn44, jets, intake manifold, reed cages. Only thing lacking now is a pipe. I really don't want to do any glass work though. Is there any pipe that would work and fit fine?

ive heard kerker fits without modding but i cant confirm . I have a full pjs pipe and manifold and only had to cut and re weld the mount to make the pipe sit lower , and add couple power dents to clear motor mount bolts . Also over sized gas tank helped with clearance , has more of a channel where the pipe passes

I am stuck at the moment........how do you remove the driveshaft coupler on the engine side so I can swap it with the 550? Also looking at this conversion plate 2 screw holes are spaced more a part on one side than the other- what side goes where?

What I did was put a rag in the cylinder, and put something rubber or wood in the cylinder and bolt the head back on so the crank won't spin, then put engine in a vise and get a cheater bar, slip a large wrench in the coupler and give it a year haw
