550 won't start

Bought a 550 for $400 with aftermarket parts up the arse. Motor wouldn't start just kinda sputters and backfires, I took a carb off another motor that runs and it still won't start any ideas? Already took the top end apart and rebuilt

The flywheel looks new and the whole stator assembly was recently replaced before I bought it

So the flywheel key is intact and the timing is set correctly?

Not exactly sure, how would I go about removing the flywheel? I've pulled the cover off and the nut but can't seem to get the flywheel off

You need a puller. Can be loaned out at autozone. I believe they call it "harmonic" puller.

Do you have spark on both plugs?

83 was a piston port. If it were me I would confirm timing and flywheel then move on from there.

Put a shop vac up to the exhaust hose while cranking. The don't like to run those piston port motors.
