Precious metals have remained relatively steady long term. Why do u feel it's a bad investment? I prefer my savings in hard assets over currency any day.

Year over year returns are mediocre at best compared to a decent stock, index, or mutual fund. You would probably do about the same or better having your money in an online high yield savings for the last 2 years. If the world does go to sht then only thing of value will be food and safety.

I look at things a bit differently than most folks. Most people think that a number in a computer or ink printed paper means they can buy things. If/when it all goes to hell that 'money' won't do squat as you know. Besides that, money in the USA is just a poker hand bluff. I mean damn!.....we're 34 TRILLION in debt and the current inflated dollar is an absolute joke to anybody with half a working brain! Hard assets have barter value, as do skills. I've built a huge skillset in my years that would allow me to protect and feed my family in a worst case scenario. And I tend to invest in various hard assets that would be useful to many walks of life thereby increasing my chances of having something of real world value,....not just an i.o.u. IF....a time like that ever comes, but I hope not.

It only matters if you have that metal in your POSSESSION, you know like at home. Owning metals somewhere else is about as good bathroom wallpaper when $hit hits the fan.

My grandpa kept gold bars for this very reason.

Yes. I'm in a rural area and keep hard assets at home hidden.
Your grandpa was a smart man. Likely old enough to remember the depression, or at least first hand accounts of it. My wife's grandpa is turning 95 in March, I've heard first hand stories myself.

Oh, I use the usd and keep a smallish business account as the norm. But, the standing and skinning of my shop was traded out for jet ski labor. I traded out a bit of legal paperwork mumbo jumbo this past summer. And I have a guy lined up to trade out a new gravel drive down to the shop this summer. Any profits after theft.....I mean 'taxes'...I don't leave in the bank. I buy things that hold or increase in value.

The depression was a city thing. One of my grandmas lived on a farm, and they had no issues during the 30s. WWII was worse.

I'm all stocked up there too. But, in our rural area MOST folks pack and own firearms, hell, my Walther is sitting right here in the top of my toolbox. And of course we still have that small town comradery. Id' hate to see some out of towners try to come in here during a $h!tstorm and try stealing food or something......I think they'd wish they never thought about it!

That movie still haunts me 15 years later. If anyone really wants to know what shtf is going to be like. The Road is a documentary of what the US will be like after ww3.. *not really a documentary, but worth a watch if a shtf scenario is something you think about.

Didn’t know there was a film adaptation but doesn’t surpriseme as his work has been for many other books. Cormac McCarthy is an excellent writer ( No Country for Old Men, All the Pretty Horses).
