Blaster 61x vs 62T Exhaust Manifolds: Same?

Can anyone tell me how much different the 61x and 62T Exhaust manifolds are?
I want to get a Factory Pipe, but the one I have found has a 61X manifold included...and I have a 62T
If its a little port matching, I'm OK with that...but if its a lot???

FYI, if you buy a complete new pipe from factory pipe, you can have them swap out the 61x mani for a 62T. The difference was 15ish or so. Otherwise you can buy a new 62T mani direct from them. By the time you get an overpriced used pipe with questionable water screws, a mani with stripped out headpipe threads, and worn couplers, it makes sense to buy new.

Are you sure you top end is 62t? I used to be lost on that but if its a normal stock 62t that came in a blaster it is still the same cylinder and mani as the 61x. Unless some one put an actual 62T cylinder on there you should be in good shape. I know the 760 cylinder needs the bigger studs but am not sure that it is even designated as a 62t. Yamaha will really through you off with all those designations. the 62T in a 96 b1 says 64u on the printed label.

The bolt size m8 is the same on the 62t as the 61x. no change in that department from factory at all. The factory Manifold is identical as well.006.jpg082.jpg

Dave the cylinder is 61x on both those motors but the cases are 61x and 62t so.........

single carb 701 = 61x cases + 61x cylinder = m8 exhaust bolts

Twin carb 701 =. 62t cases + 61x cylinder = m8 exhaust bolts

twin carb 760 =. 64x cases + 62t cylinder = m10 exhaust bolts

also you can use 62t cases and 62t cylinder.

Excellent!
Thanks so much for the help guys!
I have a STOCK 96 B1 so i guess that settles it.
I'll snag that pipe!

As for the first question it's just the bolt size which is different so it will, work fine

Yes it will work fine but thats not the answer to the question. True, bolt size is different, but the ports are not exactly the same. You can make a 61X manifold into a 62T by drilling the holes and port matching, but you cant do the opposite.

You'll be fine buying that pipe though because all blasters come with a 61X cylinder.

He has a 61x cylinder so it will be fine and I understand that the port timing and height is different on the cylinders but the manifold b pipe 61x 62t are the same and look the same except for the bolt holes .

off topic but some people think because the 62t is a 760 it will make more power but that is not true unless you deck the cylinder, a ported 701 61x will always hit harder

No wonder some many people get so confused when it comes to 62t vs 61x with all these conflicting answers. Lets set the record straight...

61x (single carb 701)= 61x cases, 61x cylinder M8x1.25 exhaust main bolts

62t/61x (found only in 96+ SJ and 96 blaster 1)= 62t cases, 61x cylinder M8x1.25 exhaust mani bolts

62t (all other dual carb 701)= 62t cases, 62t cylinder M10x1.25 exhaust mani bolts

64x (760)= 64x cases (two pulse fittings and relief for sleeves is larger for bigger sleeves), 64x cylinder (still marked 62t but comes with 84mm bore sleeves and two extra gussets on the intake side of the casing) M10x1.25 exhaust mani bolts

As far as the Factory Pipe manifolds being different i know the 62t version is a little different but honestly FP's castings have changed so much over the years your crazy if you dont at least check the cylinder to manifold port alignment. Easiest way for most is use the gasket.

And if you have a 61x manifold and would like to use it on the 62t or 64x there is no reason to timecert. Just use M8x1.25 helicoils and glue them in with loctite. You COULD time cert them but then it is irreversible and if you happen to not be 100% square when you drill you will be fighting the bolts when installing the manifold. Dont forget to check the cylinder to manifold port alignment and grind to match.....

Hope this helps
