62t 61x reverse engineering/billet machining

Lol, I could buy the stock. I'd probably even throw in a squarenose hull that needs a bit of fiberglass for the aftermarket powervalve version;)
I have a buisnees trip to upstate newyork and one to texas coming up as soon as hotels open up again but other than that i will be working on this project primarily. These models proved to be quite challenging to model. I am thankfull a pv cylinder will be easier to scan and model. Also my coworker on this project put in his 2 weeks today so that wont speed things up.
 
Yeah they look like a pain to model. I had thought about designing some and was going to just measure the important points then design the rest simpler and easier to make with only 3 - 4 axes. I decided starting with a 66e and making the peripherals to make it work would be easier though. I might post about it if I ever get some time to work on it.
 
So i apple agize for the dead time. I have been working day and night trying to figure out how to get a cnc machine to make an n95 mask. To all those new to this thread i will be machining billet 62t cases and other parts to be determined, i initially posted this right before covid so progress has slowed for now. See attached pics of n95 mask mania! This is what i had to go through to get back to the 701 project at hand. But any way, i am doing the 701 project with Autodesk and Millstar for support. another cad/3d scanner company is offering services and wants in. They are asking for a part to 3d scan, then model, then manufacture. I was thinking a pump. However i just saw the “quality” of the recent fpp products that just shipped out and was thinking maybe a head pipe would be a solid choice to dig into. Please give me your input, also keep in mind i would need to borrow head pipe or pump for about a month at minimum. Lend me the part for scanning will get you the scans and a machined part. Ill pay all shipping and could work out collateral of necessary.

I have a head pipe and manifold on the shelf I could send you. Another good one would be to copy another billet cylinder like the ET967! :D Or the older Able.
 
Finish looks great on those dies, maybe an otherh machine is in our future, getting frustrated with the kitamura and sold our 4th axis mill. Currently our only multi axis milling is on our lathes lol. I’m surprised your still working on this with imts 2020 cancelled, are you going to be demoing these parts at a different show?

IMTS 2022 will be here before you know it! Really i am pretty excited about IMTS 2020 getting canceled, now i have 3 years and double budget! we are going to have an open house this year, i imagine our distributors will do the same so we need demos. also we are in desperate need of social media content. Next week i have a meeting with a very large metrology company wanting to do a demo with us to compete with the 701 demo that i am doing with thier competitor. I need to have demo ideas to throw out there during the meeting.


What Kitamura do you have? How Old? What control? Whats the issue? I know a guy that can help.


BTW those are ramjam finishes, wait until you see something i want to look good!
 
I figgured that was the fast finish since it’s for stamping a mask lol still looks good. Also that’s a very cool position to be in. The kitamura is a mycenter 1 apc, mid 90s i80 control. Today I have to pull the drawbar out to replace the collet since yesterday I smashed it backing it out of a failed toolchange and forgot to unclamp the drawbar before it smashed the tool back in the spindle. It’s always something with this machine but mostly toolchange related, I also pulled all the tool pots out yesterday to clean them and the carousel because it was so full of vaporized coolant and chips. I’m hoping removing a couple years of grime from the system will improve reliability lol. If you want to shoot me a pm with your kitamura guys contact info though I’m sure he will be a good resource to have, thanks!

My buddy only messes with thier new Arumatik control. What do you guys make?

B pipe, manifold and chamber should be in the mail soon for scanning.

The pump is a more challenging part and would show better. My GM now wants a complete working drive train, so i am eventually going to have to make it all.
 
The pump may be easier to just measure and draft vs scan and clean up the point cloud. I haven't used the modern scanning tools that you have available - what are you seeing for accuracy and resolution? Awesome work btw!
The scanner i used here is a metrology grade laser light scanner in the 25k price range. IT could scan a pump in about 10 minutes, maybe 5. I dont get a point cloud i get stl’s (triangulated mesh surface) directly from the scanner. This scanner is +\- 10 micron per meter. Essentially more accurate than most can people even measure.there is no reason not to scan it if you have a scanner.

the company scanning the next parts will be using a full suite of scanners and software, they are an industry leader in this technology. I am expecting perfect scans from them.

Im all ears. My boss wants to keep the cast look so i will have to surface machine the entire outside To look cast. Internally i can modify it however i like. So far everything i have modeled is based on stock. I am open to input on how to modify the cases and whatever else.

How bout machining molds for a plastic hull similar to the sea doo spark but a freestyle ski? Maybe too big?
