62t vs 61x Electronics Compatibility

I have a light weight 61x flywheel and stator that I wanted to put on a 62t motor. Both stators have the same style Deutsch waterproof connector wired the same way.

Can I run a #Zero lightened 61x fly and stator on a stock 62t eBox?

Yes it should work the cdi is the only difference and they are interchangeable everything else swaps around. Having yamaha 62t and 61x motor parts is such an advantage its nice you can always frankenstein something that runs.

So, if I already put Deutsche style waterproof fittings on both of my eboxes and both stators, it should work without a jumper wire. If it starts, it should work, yeah?

I see that. It looks like (from the MSD instructions) it's a jumper because the OEM connectors are male to male. I don't have that issue because I have the stator wires already on an aftermarket waterproof connector. I suppose I'll fire it tonight and see if she bangs.

Not only did she not fire, but she doesn’t even click now. It spun over last night before putting the exhaust in. Maybe I have a bad connection on the starter. Battery’s good, good power to the main fuse, fuse is good, hardly anything to starter. Looks like I’m pulling the exhaust, tank and eBox to verify all connections and I’m gonna check the CDI at this point.

This thread probably shouldn’t have been started under “custom/hybrid”. It’s just an old RN Superjet with lots of aftermarket parts, but it’s not a custom build.

If needed, I’ll put the previous 62t stator and stock flywheel back in. Check all connections and cross my fingers and toes. I need to get back on the water yesterday, dammit!

If it not clicking it’s probably not the wire to the starter. Check your start switch wiring (red/orange IIRC) and make sure u have 12v on one side and 12v on the side that goes to the starter solenoid when u press the start button.

And by the way... the motor not turning over has nothing to do with the stator or Cdi. The starter circuit is completely separate and really only depends on the start switch and solenoid.

Checked the fuse, charged the battery all night, motor turns over by hand. Sometimes the starter clunks/clicks. Suppose it's either the start itself or the start/stop switch.

Cracked a piston, rebuilt the motor, now I have electrical problems. I hate chasing gremlins sometimes.

I get 12v to the solenoid. I get signal power on the brown wire from the start button, but I get nothing out of the solenoid. I swapped to a spare solenoid and still nothing so I ordered and put in an AM solenoid and still nothing. I moved the ground cable, still nothing. I haven't yet removed and tested the starter itself, but shouldn't I be getting power to the starter cable from the solenoid? What am I missing? What are the white/black wires from the start/stop switch for? Is that the stop button?

white/black is stop - that won't impact the motor turning over. trace the ground to your solenoid. The solenoid is a very simple thing. There are two small wires coming off it. one should go to ground. the other gets 12v when starting. if its grounded, you should hear it click when sending 12v to the other wire (i think its orange but i might be misremembering the color).

No click. The solenoid is grounded with everything else in the ebox. The brown or orangish brown wire jumps up to 12v when the start button is pressed. Good 12v to the solenoid, nothing out of it.

Check continuity of your ebox to your battery ground. Maybe u dont have a good ground to the ebox
