I had never ran across this on here so I thought to pass this on in case anyone was looking to trim some weight and might have some bed plates sitting around.

I noticed the hole design on the 650/750 bed plates are different so I weighed them up.

650 and 750sx looked the same, but I weighed a 650 bed plate. It was 6lb .08 oz and the SXR bed plate was 7lb 2oz for a weight savings of 1lb 1.92oz.

One thing to note, the SXR bed plate has oval motor mount bolt holes, so you might need to open them up a bit on the 650 or 750 plate.

Here's the pic of the cleaned up 650 plate getting a fresh coat of appliance epoxy next to my dirty SXR plate:

Nice find dude!

All 650 and 750SX plates are the identical. Early SXI plates are the same except with reinforcements welded on the bottom since big pin engines shake a lot more. Later standups used the same plates as sitdowns which is what is shown in the picture. A 650 plate under a big pin engine may develop cracks over time.

When I saw a difference I immediately wondered why and if strength had anything to do with it. I'll keep an eye on it and make sure all is well.

You don't happen to know where the cracks develop do you? I imagine they originate from a bolt hole, but plate to engine or plate to motor mount?

These just got bolted to a pump gas Blackjack 820 (84mm) SXR engine that will be running a Power Factor Pipe, should be a good test mule.

Check around the engine to plate bolts for black fretting residue, it will indicate a crack or loose bolts. I once had all four bolts come loose because I used to many coats of paint on the plate.
