So after tearing down the ski, I have realized that most of the engine is in good shape while the hull is a bit rough. The engine is good to go outside of the fact I need to replace the reeds, rebuild the crank, new stator, new flywheel, and a new bendix.

Looks like you've got a good start. As far as the parts you mentioned, all are worth it and can be had for pretty cheap. Let me know what you need. I snagged a ring in my 650 a couple weeks ago and have been slowly parting it out. I've already sold the 44sbn and westcoast intake but have a ton of other good parts I can sell you if you're interested including the westcoast pipe. Pm me if you're interested. Good luck with the build!

I forgot to add, as far as glass materials, I reinforced mine with two layers of 18oz glass. Make sure you get epoxy resin. They're are a bunch of different resins available with different mix ratios, differing in flash and work time. The carbon reinforcement looks good, but you get the same results for a fraction of the cost by using glass in my opinion. I too removed the extinguisher tube (makes for a lot more room to wrench in the engine bay). Footholds are a must and I would definately recommend tubbies. The tubbies coupled with a shorter handlepole made the ski a lot more fun and controllable to ride. You may also want to look for a toploader intake grate and different ride plate if your ski still has the stock ones. All of these together make the 650 pretty good.

Hey man, thanks for the advice with the fiber glass. What brand of epoxy resin do you recommend? And what exactly are “tubbies?” I’ve heard this term used but cannot, for the life of me, figure out what it means. Are there any additional body mods that are recommended? I figure since I’ll be cutting and glassing, I might as well do as much as possible.

TIA

Tubbies are essentially hull extensions that mount to the front of your ski making it wider and adding an extra chine. They make the ski really dig in when you turn as well as add stability by making the nose wider. As far as what resin brand to use, I don't think it matters too much. I 've used U.S. Composites, West Systems, Blowsions, and recently I've been ordering 3 gallon kits off ebay. Some are thicker than others, and some set up faster (but a lot of that has to do with temp and correct ratios). U.S. Composites has a lot to choose from but are pretty informative if you call them.

As far as other handling mods, you can shorten the hull. I took 2 1/2" off mine. It's makes the ski a little more twitchy in the back but the ski turns a lot tighter and wants to jump out of the water.

Re: 650sx newb

Ya just search through the build threads for shortening tips. Tubbies can be bought from Blowsion or there's a couple of guys on here that make them too. I can post some pics if you'd like to see how I did mine.

basement ambient temperature is less than ideal, so curing will take forever.

And if for some reason you haven't turfed yet and happen to read this, use a heat gun. For some reason most people don't realize a heat gun will make the glue cure in under 30 seconds.
