650sx redo

Hey guys, this site has been real helpful as I've gotten into the sport, thought I'd post my winter rebuild.
Started life as a bone stock 89 650sx. Bought it for $750, not running.

Got her running well, added a carb, prop, modded the pipe and some other doo-dads. Then I had a budy paint it, and I returfed it for the first time.

I got the tray done, So I figured I'd test her out. Maiden voyage was going great until I got clocked by an x2....

I was pretty bummed but glad everyone was alright. So, I searched around and found an 87 hull from a local guy in fairly rough shape, but it's nearly impossible to find a local hull thats clean.

got it prepped, all the holes epoxied, and turfed it...again.

came out better on round 2, I was able to do the whole ski in 1 sheet with some careful planning. Had to do the front rail with the diamonds a different direction, but i can live with it.

my paint guy dabbles a bit in CF, so I had him wrap the nose piece...

And finally its ready for the water. while it was apart, I drilled all the water fittings on the pump and exhaust manifold (group K's specs), and drilled and tapped the head for a second bypass fitting, along with a new head gasket from Tsunami jet ski. Needles to say, its been a long process, but I'm ready to ride!

That nose piece looks great. I've just lost too many of them to keep replacing anymore lol. I think the red turf is a much better idea, the white would have gotten dirty stained really quickly. Time for footholds next season!

I used one sheet of turf, I was able to do everything except the hood pads, so I'll probably do those with fabric. Get a harbor freight heat gun and go to town. Its the only way to make the curves. Foot holds will come soon, thanks guys

I have ripped the nose piece off my 650 from subs hundreds of times. It has also ripped the entire fuel kneck and gas cap off along with it 3 times. I have to keep wood screwing the filler kneck on but it keeps getting ripped out.
Eventually i stopping doing subs unless they were inverted.. Or i don't screw the nose piece on and just unscrew the cap cap and take it off before i do subs
