Quick steer plate helps some too.

if it has the old tiny Keihn 28mm carb with the remote fuel pump, ditch tthat carb for a Kehin 38/40/42 or Mikuni 44/46 SBN ASAP!

On a Kawie 650, you can just remove the flywheel and turn the stator plate a little bit to advance the ignition. Watch doing this if you are running high compression though. If not you can have detonation.

You can have your stock head milled by somewhere like Group K to get a little more umph.

An aftermarket pipe is a plus but drying out your stock one is fine for now.

Quick steers help with handeling. I never believed in them until I broke mine on my X2 and went back to stock. It actually did make a noticable different when I went back to stock. I had to learn how to ride the ski again for half the day.

Most people on this site are going to tell you to get a Super Jet. While I will disagree with them on getting a 650 SJ I will say a 701 Square or Round Nose SJ will beat a 650 hands down everywhere ride/powerwise. I used to have a 650 SX myself. So don't go sinking a bunch of money into an old 650 SX because in the long run, you will be better off with an SJ.

i c, i c... well im not getting a superjet ay time soon, again i dont wanna sink a buncha money into my ski but i will seek out cheap mods. :) thanks again dude.

-Adaptor Plate $ 27
-Dremel yourslef or have machine shop open your intake manifold to 44mm
- SBN 44mm carburator used $ 60-100

Well worth the $$'s

One mod I remember when I had one was to plug or fill the original hole on the interior of the head pipe (1/4" hole) and drill a smaller one next to it (1/8" if I remember correctly). This is completly free and prety straight forward.

I never tried it but people claim it to be one of the best "free" upgrades.

Stock 650 exhaust mod. Cheap as they come.

There was also a size between the stock 29mm and the 44. (38 maybe?)

You can score a manifold and one of those units cheap from one of the guys here who upgraded to the 44. It will still be an upgrade for you.

You should also inspect your prop - that is the number 1 place where you can make an improvement (if needed).

Your "Prop" or Impeller is what puts the power to the water. I am sure you will know what it is after seeing a photo. Ideally you would have no chips or rough edges on your impeller or your stator, which is the piece behind your impeller and hard to see.

Chips on the leading edges can cause major power loss issues due to cavitation.

is it hard to change them out>??

Hey, I just bought a 650SX too not just a not quite a couple of months ago. I have a pretty good list of mods I plan on doing as well. Most of which are free. I work in a machine shop so all my mods requiring machining will be free hehe  But I'm also really low on funding right now so mine have to be free or as close to it as possible too.

Free Mods:
-Oversize the pump nozzle (44mm if I remember correctly)
-Mod the pump nozzle for quick steering (will have to make an adapter plate if I can't see some pics on one already done )
-Polish the exhaust ports and maybe match them to the head pipe if needed
-May port the intake too to match the manifold if needed
-Polish the piston faces and polish the domes if needed
-Mod the exhaust but a little differently than changing internal hole sizes
-Possibly mod the head for dual cooling if I choose to up the compression

Money Mods:
-Hone the cylinders
-Replace piston rings
-Up the jets to the second largest available
-Carb kit (not a mod but should be done to a new old ski lol)
-If upping compression, mill the heads by .028"
-Inspect the decks and mill .002" off if they need to be squared up
-New intake, base and exhaust gaskets

If I can think of more I'll try and remember to post them.

The quick-steer mod can be done a couple of ways:

You can drill another hole in the nozzle arm CLOSER to the nozzle.

You can extend the arm on the steering assembly (using the old hole to hold the extension plate).

You can do both.

The idea is to make the handle bars move LESS. it's a simple linkage system.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Up the jets to the second largest available"...

The jets available run way higher than you will ever need to use.

If you are in a machine shop, you can also shave the head to bring the compression up to 180 PSI.
