66e big bore in stand up

Just got done riding the x-jet with the big bore gp motor in there and thought I would post my opinion thus far.

First off I think the 66e is a nicer engine to work on. Much beefier in all the right areas and no thin spots caused by porting the cases or anything of that nature. The flywheel is mounted to the crank and the stator is located on the flywheel cover. It makes for easy adjustments to timining and overall maintence to MSD should a pick up go bad. The flywheel cover is also sealed with a thick o-ring. No more $18 flywheel cover gaskets that leak anyway :bananajump: Same goes for the reed valves. All sealed via orings for easy maintence

I was way off on my initail tuning. I started off with a 145M and 135p. Way too much fuel. I was just drowning the motor in fuel. Per Jeff's reccomendation I dropped it down to a 135M (only had a 125M in the tool box) and 120p. Much better, but still not quite right. That being said the ski is a arm jerker right now. In fact I pulled my trim and immediatly snapped the cable  I wonder if the 13/17 mag impeller is not spinning right off idle now? I am having a hard time figuring out whether it is spinning, or the carbs are not just right, or it just the powerband of the motor. I will keep plugging away. As of now I think I need be at about a 130M and 125p. I am currently 1 1/2 turns out (120p) on the low speed and that is where it started snapping good down low.

The mid rpms on this motor is very good. It could easily rip out of your hands. One observation I had was how the power builds with this engine. It just keeps going. Most 62t motors I have been on have that initail burst, but then it levels off. The 66e seems to just keep building and building. If I can just get that low end to snap better and clean up the carbs throughout the rps I think it will definatly be a keeper. :cheer: If someone ever produces a light weight crank it will be game on!!!!

How is the Dry pipe so far??? Did you try it with the wet pipe first?

You can keep coming down on the high speed jet. 120 on the low is where im at with 48 PB' as well .

The pipe seems great. I ran a 1200 with the wet pipe and it did not want to rev out. This seems to be good, but I have more testing to do. What are you running on the high speed jet?

Here is how it sounds on the trailer. A little rough as the carbs are not dialed and there is a scupper over the exhaust outlet

Took it out today and got some quick video. Hook up is better and the carbs are closer to where they need to be. I am wanting a mag pump but that will have to wait :dead1: You can't really tell in the video but it is ripping pretty good. I kept the rpms low and was just tooling around for a bit before the weather came in

Sounds good, it is really hard to tell from the video how much you where getting on it but it really doesn't look a ton more powerfull than my 800 (I am sure it is) my motor didn't seem to have the low end snap that yours has but it is a mid range monster! I am pretty fat down low and am just breaking it in so still taking it easy but once I adjusted the way I approached setup wakes it is a rocket off the water. I am so psyched to get mine dialed and broken in, this motor is everything I wanted it to be.
I am running 140m 120p 2 turns out on both screws 2.3? N/S and 115g spring on my powerbombs, I think I am going to start with going to a 2.0NS and 95g springs.
