66E WDK f1-pro build

Location

Well it's been 4 years since I said anything about wanting to build this ski up... and I have finally checked all the boxes (ps this first post will be long sorry!)

Let the build begin...

At first, I'll list all the parts I ordered

From WDK
-shorty steering system
-66E high compression heads
-66E grill kit
-CNC billet exhaust manifold
-new style expansion chamber
-carbon fiber bars

From blowsion
-odi vans grips & blowsion locking ring
-billet throttle and trim levers
-lots of 3/8, 1/4, and 1/8 hose
-new primer ball (never ended up working)
-billet 45 degree water bypass fittings
-freestyle pump cone
-cold fusion fuel filters
- everything to redo the fuel system, pickup filters, new tank fittings, check valve, etc
-NOCO Eyelet Battery Terminal Connector
-Throttle Cable Drum
-Billet Fuel Rail (had to make my own)
- turf glue
-limiting strap
-lots of other little things not worth listing but were needed

From TC freeride
-RRP 144mm trim kit

OEM Yamaha parts
-complete top end rebuild kit
-new OEM cylinders which I had ported

The goal I have with this build is to be able to FWB... Ambitious I know

While I wait on MORE parts, I started to work on what I could

-Trim-
Nothing about this build is going easy, everything wants to flight me every part I put on, I spent quite a few weekends just mounting the trim system, dealing with mounting points that don't line up, to dealing with clearance issues, etc.

I started out with pulling the whole pump out to run the trim cable, once that was in I moved to make the trim system fit, lots and lots of mounting then removing, mounting and removing seeing if I took enough off either the trim and the steering... horn?

either way, once I had that all figured out, and cut to size it came out one last time... I hope... to drill and tap a new hole for the steering cable

moving our way upstream, making the RRP trim cable work with the blowsion trim lever was a puzzle... I have no idea how it was supposed to go but I made it work my way... I had to machine the adjustment screw and locking ring to accept the larger RRP cable and then just cut a split into the rubber cover and put it on and used zip ties to hold/mount it.

-wire management-
the eye is always attracted to the things that don't belong, or things that just don't quite look right, and messy wiring can make or break a build in anything, so since day one my goal was to clean up this wiring.

I started out with moving that huge lume bundle and just tucking it under/behind the Ebox, which ALREADY made the bay look just that must more appealing, next was to deal with that ugly line of wires from the engine, a long piece of corrugated split wire lume tubing did the trick! and then just grouping and trucking any and every wire I could find

-pipe-
on this f1 pro the pipe is the first thing to go in and the last thing to come out. the last pipe I had in it needed lots of work to make fit. and I was expecting this one to be the same... what I found to be the biggest problem is just figuring out the order of operation on how/when this pipe goes in and what needs to be already mounted to it.. still waiting on a 2.5" to 2" 90 degree silicone pipe to really see how it's going to fit... will be interesting as its already an extremely tight fit!

-fuel system-
I have easy access to AV gas 100LL due to being an AME so I plan on running this off... well 100LL to keep it from knocking with the higher compression
the old fuel system was the same system since the ski was built the first time. so it was time it saw some new lines and filters

when I went to install the parts from blowsion, they all went on without a hitch, except the billet few rail. it makes sense as that was made for the SJ dual carb system which has the carbs sitting MUCH closer than on a 66E... time to make my own!

then the motor was mounted and I could mount the carbs and start to run the deliver, return, and pulse lines to and from the tank, then I removed the carbs and spent the evening organizing all the lines... I'm not quite happy with it yet so there is a good chance I go back and change some things

next is finding a place to mount the primer... I wanted a smaller primer ball but since that doesn't work I have to go back to the old push pull primer... I made up a little template out of cardboard to be able to mount it to the heads and have the primer sit in between each intake. I plan on making it out of aluminum, carbon fiber, or fiberglass, haven't yet decided.

this is where I am at currently, I'm only able to work on it during the weekends, there will be lots of updates to come

thank you!! the dream for a FWB is still very alive for me... and if it won't do that, I know it'll do one off a boat wake or something! I've never ran carbon bars either... guess just time will tell!

still waiting on parts, so just taking my time and gluing up the turf that's pulled away
and drilling holes in the hull... always nerve wracking for the first time

what do you need, just gp800 piston kits?
pretty much, been calling around all morning, sounds like wiseco has ONE kit in stock and ready to ship might just order that and be done with this mini nightmare of chasing parts... just don't know how I feel about aftermarket pistons

Have you tried Ebay? I just searched and it seemed like there was plenty of Wiseco and ProX pistons available.

Was just typing that haha, yeah personally I prefer a cast piston in a plated bore, I think the plating last longer without the extra piston cyl clearance, and harder piston beating on it. They have sizes a-c listed on ebay right now.
Are OEM and Pro-X not both made by ART, is that old dirtbike news?

Thanks guys for the help, I've had a bad history with parts not showing up or taking forever for them to be delivered, instead of chasing down pistons from one website and gaskets from another, I just went with the wiseco kit.. everything should be here Wednesday/thursday next week!

Came home to a beautiful sight! Bunch of packages sitting on my door step!

Titanium M10 bolts for the exhaust
2.5-2" 90° silicone pipe
And the piston/gasket kit from wiseco!

It's gonna be a long week of waiting before I can put everything together on the weekend!

Hope everyone is having a good fathers Day weekend!

Got all the way out here JUST to realize I'm STILL in need of those stupid thrust washers for the wrist pin bearing.....
Had 1 in stock at work and I express shipped 3 more

Spent some time doing one full mach up.. running the final cooling lines... little clean up here and there but that pipe was the biggest pain in my butt... Sadly I think I gotta take some heat and a hammer to it so it won't rub.. I think it's looking pretty mint so far!
