Pretty big quake just south of Cuba could mean some serious surf for us these next few days....maybe.
Can't wait to see what Magic Seaweed says tomorrow morning.

(I'm not being insensitive, just stating a fact).

How does an earthquake in Haiti today mean serious surf in FL for the next few days?

Considering it's location in the Atlantic, I would assume it's safe to say at 7.0 we'll see at least some swell from it. I do believe that it did hit in a port city, which would lead me to think that it was an off-shore quake/fault.

If I get some time later, I do some research. But I'm betting we'll see something on the east coast of FL.

Some swell?

Methinks you have some misconceptions about how tsunamis works. :dunno:

off topic? its very possible that we could get waves from that quake.....it was a huge.......the african coast and madgascar got waves from the earth quake in 04

Yes....and they came across the ocean at hundreds of miles per hour, a few sets, and were gone. This was over in a matter of hours. Most of that time was time spent for the waves to travel across thousands of miles of ocean.
Those weren't "waves" in the traditional sense, either. Look at some youtube videos of tsunami swells. They're quite different.

It's also worth noting that very few seaquakes actually produce tsunamis.
There was an initial tsunami alert for this quake, but it has been lifted already.

No.

Even if there were, you probably would not notice it or miss it.

werd i just saw that...well it would have cool if we did get some waves tho

Doesn't work that way. Sorry.

quake epicenter was actually on land north of the city of Jacmel just off the southern tip of the fault. doubt any swells made it anywhere.
