701 61x waveblaster not firing with good spark??

During my last ride of the season last year my ski was ripping with no issues whatsoever and then died on me and came to a complete stop and had to get towed in. It would turn over good but didn’t fire. Got back to the shop and I checked spark and it was strong from both wires. Replaced plugs and still nothing. A couple weeks ago I took apart the ebox and flywheel cover to look at stator. Everything looks good in the ebox, with no damaged wires or connections. When I pulled the stator off it looked like my charge coil was damaged so I replaced the whole stator yesterday. I’m running a zeeltronic cdi and it’s been hooked up and running for a couple seasons. I put a brand new 46 mikuni in last year and ran really good coming from dual 38s which never ran as smooth. Put the ebox, stator, flywheel, etc. back together hoping the bad charge coil would be the fix but it’s still turning over strong with good spark but not firing. I checked compression and both cylinders are reading 175. I’m thinking it’s fuel related, but with it being a brand new carb with maybe a dozen rides on it, I figured it wouldn’t be the internals of the carb. Any suggestions on where to turn next?

To determine what it is , first dribble some premix down the carb throat , if it fires off you are not getting fuel , if it doesn't fire off hold the throttle wide open, spin it and see if it fire, it could be fuel starved or flooded , you have to find out which it is.

What he said put fuel down the throat and see if she fires then you can at least narrow down to fuel.

Also, unlikely, but check to make sure the woodruff key is not sheered. That will cause these symtpoms too.

I just had the flywheel off and the key and flywheel looked good

Doesn’t fire with fuel added straight thru the carb. Tried holding throttle open and nothing still. Would timing prevent it from firing? My stator was put back in the same place it was taken off.

Might have a leaking Crankcase due to bad/broken Reed Petals, blown Seals, a Crack or a Hole in the Crankcase. Need Crankcase air-tightness (aka Primary Compression) to move Air/Fuel Mixture up into the Cylinders.

Remove the Spark Plugs and put a little Fuel directly into the Cylinders, reinstall Spark Plugs and Wires and attempt to start. Report back.

I think this is the issue…added a little bit of premix to each cylinder and it fired. Progress but now I’m concerned about what that means. I just rebuilt the motor last spring from the bottom up. I did notice there was a decent amount of grease coming out of the rear seal but didn’t think too much of it at the time. Are you thinking crankcase or reeds? I’ll probably pull the carb and reeds just to check

Took the carb and reeds off and the reeds look good so it’s gotta be something more serious. Just when I thought it would be good to go for the next two three years lol

Look and see if the rear crankshaft seal is still in the crankcase , loosely install the carb, grab the pulse line, spin the engine over and see if it has a pulse, no pulse , no fuel , you can also hook everything up, leave the return line off , spin it over and see if fuel come out the return fitting.

I’ll report back tomorrow on this. Thanks

It's possible something went wonky with the Zeel as a result of the questionable stator. Maybe just try tossing in a stock CDI first. If it ran well before any electrical changes then suddenly stopped but all the mechanical side still seems good, it could be the electrical side. I've had 4 out of 4 MSD Enhancers do exactly what you're saying. They just shut down. Even though they showed spark on the trailer, when under load the spark wasn't there to ignite the fuel or its timing was totally gone. Either way, as soon as I put a stock CDI back in the problem was gone. If I didn't get a Zeel given to me as a gift I probably wouldn't have bought one just because I have no faith in aftermarket ignitions anymore.

I'd bet it's the zeel. Bad reeds. Compression. Carbs. Gas. Blah blah. Will pop and sputter. Nothing at all. Is almost always ignition related. Or cables/wiring. Stator rarely fail catastrophically. Unless install error. So. Sherlock says. You hot a bad cdi. Or something up with the ignitiong/wiring.
