701 build, porting?

hey i have recently upgraded from a 650 to a 701 and added a few mods in the process. ive got a pipe, intake, single 44 carb, head, carbon fiber reeds, lightened flywheel, msd, prop ect. i havnt been on a 701 yet only my 650. will i be happy with this or should i just port it out before i put everything back together? is the 701 as bad with the porting as the 650 was? i can always port it next winter but it would be easier to do it now.

I'll tell you what you want to hear. LOL Go for it!

If you have the ski apart still and you have the money, why not port it now. Once you put it all together you may not feel like tearing it all apart again. The 701's last a long time if taken care of so it may be awhile before the top end gives you an excuse to tear into it.

hmm. is the porting on the 701 as bad as the 650's are? would i need to do a carb upgrade if i have all these mods and have it ported? i have a stock 44.

no way dude 701s rip great with just a high compression head and pipe. throw some good porting on it with those other mods and it may be too much to handle.

I agree, except you can never have too much power. LOL

My race ported 701 SN had a single 44 and I got a good gain by going to a single 46. I plan on putting the dual 38's from my RN onto it eventually.

There are lots of guys running small carbs on big engines with great results. I personally wouldn't go smaller than a single 46mm with porting on a 701.
