Blaster 701 Industries Quick steer: Ride Report

@zimmy yo bro where can i get them bars?

Fast Elements has them, they shipped them the same day I ordered them! Kieran may have been right about the width, but I want to give them a try first. The probably need an extra inch either side, but Ill know for sure once I get out on the water!

hey zim mate this steering is seriously insane multiple adjustments got mine out to the same as players more than enough tried to take it out to 5 from the stem way to responsive and over rotation of rolls was an issue also running some hybris=d cable so work 50 times better with a stock cable ive been told you will be impresses and looks like my old U M i will be colllecting dust

Jay, I am stoked to see how much of a difference this steering will make on the handling! There is definitely WAYYY more throw than what I had, plus you can see it at the nozzle too! Ill post up a ride report... Maybe you should max that thing out and work on some flat water rolls!!! haha

Ok, so I finally got out on the water today to give the new 701 Industries Quick Steer a test run, weather here has been cold recently, today was about 40 degrees and the river was way colder than that!

Feedback: The steering system feels AWESOME!

- The ski is way more agile with half the input required over my previous steering systems (suspension, UMI, stock modified).
- The offset feels natural for the blaster; it doesn’t feel awkward or weird over other steering systems.
- The quick steer is really nice, I can see this system helping with rolls in a big way (I had mine set on the second to last adjustment available)

I shot some video of the test ride, should be able to post it up soon!

Big thanks to Chris in TX and Dave at 701 for getting this system to the market and all of the R & D that went into designing this setup. It should be going through the ringer in the surf soon, but I have to say that based on today’s ride it should be a blast for ripping waves, slashing today was a breeze! :)

There was never any doubt in my mind that you would not like it. After 10hrs on the water with it you're really don't even think about it anymore. It just works. Your riding style changes. Surf riding and slashing waves like a surfer becomes a new category in the trick book. It's simply fast. Moves the back of the ski around like rocket.

3rd from the end is the go for my style. As the faster you set it the less movement you get at the bars. (The arc reduces). Some will love super short, minimal movement. Some will the bigger arc for throwing the body around. What ever you want. You can choose. That's the cool bit.

I nearly barrel rolled mine yesterday by complete accident. The steering just threw me. Was scary but awesome. Love 701 industries. The saviour of the blaster world!

What is going on right above where the cable mounts with the allen set screw and nut? Whats the price on this? It appears you don't have to drill a hole in the hood for your cables with this as I heard you do with the UMI.

You have the option of running your cables through the centre tube like factory or down the side as with UMI. The steering comes with a block off bung for the centre tube so its really a personal choice. I wanted to build a purposed built steering system for the freestyler who spends most of his time in the surf. Every thing on this system was designed and built around the best Blaster freestylers in Aus. Everything from its Quickness, its height, weight, maintaince and the handle bar mounting was a accumulation of these guys, As there is 2 main sizes i went for the larger more stronger bar as this is what is preferred for freestyle. This size was not only the choice of Aus riders but riders from around the world. There maybe one day a choice as the race market prefer the smaller dia, but for now, tts fat bars only.

Set screws are the adjustable steering stops. You can see them a bit better in this pic. Right now we only have these for 1 1/8 fat bars. As Dave said.....we're looking into making a 7/8 version available in the future. We have another shipment due in the States very soon. These things go quick. Awesome, means this will be an easy swop with any existing UMI systems. Running the cables through the hood makes for easy maintenance on this system, bushing replacement can be done by simply popping off the bar mount and cable attachment, no worries with seezed up bearings or bolts on this design.

This Steering is really starting to come into it's own. Surf riding is now far more aggressive and turning is soo fast which is awesome!

Also helps flick it around for the nose stabs. a lot easier.. Almost flipping,, weeks away..

Surf Report

Finally got a chance to put this steering system to the test in some big surf down in Daytona, as expected, the quick steer made slashing waves effortless! The steering held up to some big surf abuse with the huge waves that came in over the weekend.

After inspecting the system upon returning home it looks as good as new, held up to loaded water starts, hard landings and a few flat landed backies and hasn't shown any signs of giving in.

My buddy Travis picked up one of these systems at Daytona and couldn't wait to change everything out, so he went to work in the parking lot on Friday night. He went with the high riser mx style bars and was much happier with how it rode compared to the day before on his UMI system.

All in all, this is a great steering system, easy to setup, sturdy and reliable. I definitely think that this blows away the other systems currently offered with the amount of adjustability it offers and the low maintenance bushing system.

Thanks 701, keep doing what you are doing!

Like Zimmy said, I rode the first couple days in Daytona with my existing UMI setup and some low 7/8" bars. I swapped over to the 701 steering with some high rise pro taper mx bars Friday night and rode all day Saturday. Such a big difference. So much more responsive, super fast turning, and seemed to hold up well to the abuse of some nasty surf on Saturday. I couldn't be happier with this setup and I did a true back to back test at Daytona so I can tell you that 701 Industries delivers the goods! I highly recommend!
