701 poting help

The big question is what are you looking for from the porting?
The DIY template is great and it is what I did to mine but it is only the exhaust port you are changing and the big hindrance on the 701 cylinder is the transfer ports.

So the DIY is good but will not match the performance of having a professional actually port your entire cylinder.

I have factory dry pipe westcoast head 175-180 compression stock prop i just want alil more bottom maintaim top speed thats why i still have stock prop i do lots of lake riddind no trick ridder just jump a few wakes and across the lake im a newb so im still learning

Are the transfer ports not matched up ifso thats something i can do myself im very mechanically inclined
No, do not touch them as you can ruin the cylinder. The transfer ports should only be touched by someone that has done a lot of porting and knows the 701.

I would suggest the first thing you do with all those mods is get the correct prop on it. What year is the ski? The newer ones had pretty good factory impellers.

OMG! Get that crap aluminum impeller out of there.
You are shooting yourself in the foot by doing all those mods and still running the stock aluminum impeller.

Call Impros and get a Hooker impeller. They will tell you the correct pitch based on your mods and it will be like a brand new ski.

Before you even think about porting, you need to be running a good prop like a hooker and a girdled head with some higher compression and a good pipe. That alone will make an absolute massive difference.
What are your current mods?

I have yet to hear of someone who ported their cylinder with my template and be unhappy with the performance. You'll definitely get more power from having a reputable shop do a full port job BUT the DIY job is a noticeable difference over a stock cylinder. If you are feeling daring, match up the transfer width and raise up the bottom of the sleeves at the transfers.

Post #6, He is already running a Factory pipe and WestCoast heat with 180psi.

Absolutely agree on the impeller.
