continuous mid range bog in my 701 jet jon
I need some guidence. I have rebuilt the motor and rebuilt the carbs. I put a motor and pump out of a 701 wave raider in this 16 foot jon boat. It would crank on the hose fine but i know that means nothing. I took it to the river and i have a continuous mid-range bog. it idles and starts great. but when you slam the throttle it starts to accerlate and then dies. I can keep it running by feathering the throttle. I replaced all the gaskets in the carb but not the needle and seat or springs as to keep the stock pop off pressure.( needle and seat looked great ) I tested the pop off pressure and it was 55 psi on both carbs. I thought that was high but thats what was in the STOCK doner ski. also if you pump the primer (no chokes) when you pin the throttle it rips your face off with acceleration until it bogs out. I tried a 35 psi spring and it went from an 90% bog to a 80%. It got a little better. and seemed to get a little better riching up the needles but nothing i could adjust out. then i went down to a 28 psi spring and could not really tell any difference. I got to thinking could the length of my new fuel lines be causing this problem. we put the tank in the front of the boat so there is every bit of 15 feet from the tank to the carb pump. Well there was this morning i moved the tank to the back and now theres maybe 4 feet from the tank to the carb the same with the return line and I eleminated all the other lines the tank is pressureized when you run it for a while so i dont have any air leaks. Any way it is still boging and that is with the 55 pound spring put back in it. today it acted like needle adjustments made little to no difference. i am running 2 38mm carbs with the stock flame arrester. please some one tell me where to go with this?
Any takers???
