I know there are a lot of us out there, and flatwater vs. surf will be different, but I'd like to hear the things you did to your ski that REALLY made a difference in performance.

We can't all have 1000cc motors. Let's help each other make our 701's rock.

I felt an immediate difference with the MSD enhancer.

I'm not talking about the impellor/pump area. We know that's gotta change along with the motor, but more "little things" you've done for an edge.

list 'em please!

ouch!

I've heard that decals add un-needed weight. However, I just cover cracks and blemishes with them. There are many.

Anyone done a bored nozzle?

My 97 SJ has a B pipe mod chamber, with MSD enhancer, lightened flywheel, pump cone, ADA head w/35cc domes and carbon reeds and hits and pulls alot harder from bottom to top then my 96 SJ with only a B pipe Limited chamber. So all those other smaller changes added up to a big difference on the 97. I think the next step is porting..?..

im running b-pipe changed from protec both hit nice but got the b pipe cheap and its ALOT lighter than the protec. msd small gain felt a little sharper (having decent coil wires is much more improvement ) loki head nice improvement . carbon tec reeds with spacer a little more eager to rev maybe .modded water box ,lightened stock flywheel and bored nozzle done together made the ski feel more eager . tbm supercone and spending some time getting the prop pitched right big improvement ! clean well set up stock carbs big improvement . steering plate and nozzle mod is an absolute must

TUNE the B pipe, that made a night and day difference in my boat.

jetworks FC valve, msd enhancer, advanced timing, ada head, lightened stck flywheel, D cut ride plate, worx intake grate, bored nozzle and/or WW cone

94 fx1: bpipe,sleeper mod(groupk),msd enhancer.

l posted a while back about installing a jetworks flow control valve.Best bang for the buck (just $39.95).The bottom hits nice now!

I noticed a significant difference going to a bored nozzle ( better than a lightened flywheel IMO). Safe higher compression best bang for buck...if you have an engine builder cut domes for MSV (max squish velocity)...agreed porting makes a big difference...case porting/epoxy adds a bit more fuel flow up the transfers.

On the B-pipe subject, according to XS you should close your top adjuster screw and open just the middle one half turn. The reason for this is to reduce the amount of moisture getting into the motor (notice the top screw is close to the opening of the exhaust manifold).

I'm glad to see a few positive comments on the bored nozzle. I'm in the process of getting one..
The FCV is good, and works, but a lot of black gak ends up in the yard.

As far as b-pipe water screw adjustment......I guess what works works. I've been told exact opposites from what factory says, etc....(I'm not gonna go thru all possible set-ups) But, yes. Tuning this puppy is essential. And from what I've seen, each ski will be different.

New reeds are great if your stock reeds are wasted....But I wouldn't say that they add performance. (in stock cages)

BTW: A bored nozzle won't help a stock impellor. I guess you can't leave the pump out of the equation!

for me the epic ignition and v force reeds really hepled

No doubt in my mind. The Epic type ignition is the wave of the future. Program it for what you want....I wish I had a woman like that! lol

This is good so far.
Total loss is something thought we would hear about immediately. I've seen/heard that it rocks in fresh/flatwater but can be misery in the surf.

I agree with all thats said, I have the same mods and I'm very happy, but looking for more.. 185 psi, bpipe w/port matched headpipe/manifold, cylinder porting, lightened fw, msd, timing advanced, 9/15 hooker w/ ww cone. I know I have some power to gain from tuning.. I think that is probably 90% of our issues. I've ridden some 701's that really slam. I think a lot of people put bpipe and head on, feel a little difference and just go ride when in reality there is much more power to be tweaked out of the engine. I think we could all stand a crash course in carb/pipe tuning, I know I could.. I've read countless threads/mikuni manuals, etc but I still feel like I don't know what I'm doing. Wish we could have a 'tuning clinic' at some of these freerides like we do the freestyle clinics where we could get some of the pro's to help us work through our little problems and make the most of our setups.

i called jetworks. he built a no bs 701 that runs very well and wasnt too much money. in the end im running std. bore 61x freeride ported cylinder, jetworks modded 38mm carbs, ada head 33cc domes, type 4 drypipe, flow control, hooker 9/15 and pump cone. stock reeds, ignition. cant believe how good this set-up works for the money spent. btw, the b limited i had didnt produce the same abount of power as the type 4. IMO the type 4 makes more USABLE power then the b limited and costs about half as much.
id love to try total loss next

I have had several 701's with different configurations , different pipes, the most noticable difference to me was well done PORTING in conjunction with RAISED COMPRESSION.

Further more a well tuned pipe in conjunction with the right impeller, intake grate, nozzle, wwf set up.

The coffmans sizzler is a great pipe and cheaper replacement for a b pipe ,if restricted properly and the carburator jetted right.

i have about 3-4k im about to put in a 701.... i was thinking, xscream porting(cylinder and case), xscream b pipe with mod, 46mm's with the boyesen intake and reeds, (there recommended intake setup) and ada gridle head. what would you change? i already have works intake grate, msd cdi, steering mods.
