750 starter

So I have a fun issue . My starter on my 750 is spinning but the bendix is not engaging so that sounds like a bad bendix . Unfortunately the previous owner welded the fly wheel ...... Any ideas ?

Check the teeth on the flywheel. My 750sx doesn't always engage but some of the teeth are a bit wore, may need a new flywheel.
