Have you tested the Stator? You may want to get an inline Spark tester, make sure there is no spark when starting. I know that mine the spark is almost undetectable when not in a darkened area while Cranking and becomes apparent when she starts. Any evidence the Electronics have been changed? Like a zxi stator? Lightened Flywheel?
Not really sure how to test the Flywheel, Hopefully someone knows.

All componets look to be stock. I guess I could replace the pick up coil that is next to the stator? I hear those can start to fail. Also I have to pull the Starter and make sure everything looks good in there. I guess they could be grounding out internally but still seem to be working fine. Especially the contact points where it mounts up to the block, clean those surface areas.
I wish I had a full stator cover plate to just slap on to see if that fixes the problem.

thank you,
I have checked the start, stop switch, with ohm meter, but I will check again.
Of an interesting Note!!!!!, I see on the diagram, that when removing the stator cover, there is a "spring" inside the stator cover, Mine does not have one. Could this be the problem????

the usual Failure with the Stator on the SX, is charge Coils. they Charge the ignition coil to fire the Spark. Sure a Pickup Can go bad, but it it runs good when you do get it running then More likely its the Charge Coils(the 2 white ones) And your idea about the Flywheel is warranted. The lack of spark, or little Spark While starting when the Engine is Hot is an indication that the Stator is Failing. Given enough time those coils Will outright Fail. FYI (you may know this already) if you find out that the Stator is bad, When removing from the Engine Cover leverage is Everything. and Avoid using a Ball-end Allen Socket or any Allen small wrench. use I think its m6 Socket cap Socket (with no ball end) Learned this one the Hard way it will break the ball off in the Head.

Spring returns the Bendix back to Position behind the flywheel if it is not returning correctly Can destroy everything in that front Compartment( and most assuredly causing you some Problems now.). the spring may be hiding under a Washer in that front engine cover, so search very carefully. Parts lists are Available on Kawasaki.com you have to look for it.

I'll check, spring must be behind washer that holds bendix. I'll take a look tonight, It must be there as I have not had any issues with that.
thanks on the info on a newer cover and the correct tools to use if I change it out. You have been very helpfull, :)

That looks like a Timing Advance Plate under the Pickup Coil. Notorious for causing Starting Issues. I would say remove it, and see if the Issue Goes away.
Edit: And it looks to be installed Backwards.

Thank you Soo much! Bingo we have fixed the lack of spark problems. I took off the advanced timing plate and now I have spark During cranking. If it was in backwards. What would the ski do with it in correctly? I will try it out in the stock setting first.
Again THANK YOU!

Stock CDI that Advance plate Should give you more power, however the R&D plate requires you to use an R&D Gasket to align it correctly on the SX models. And if its MSD I cant recall if it is intended for use for anything less than a big pin engine. Either way Good luck..
