My buddy has a redone his 750 engine with high compression head and looks like a stock exhaust. Is it OK to run the 750 with no water box or does the motor need the resistance?

unsure if the water box is for sound baffle only or if it plays and important part in the engines function.

any info would be helpful

I run an xir exhaust with no waterbox, no problems. It is also NOT abnoxiously loud. I don't think it adds any performance, but the way the xir pipe is, there is no way to plumb it into the waterbox. I bought an inline silencer to add, but after running, I decided it does not need it.

you dont need it but you wont gain any performance from deleting it. Think of your exhaust like a kink in a hose, the restriction is at the head pipe/ chamber. A stock exhaust will be restricted there.
On a side note, my ski ran better with a waterbox when running a FP mod pipe. not having the box just caused noise and a gangster lean when floating.

I dont have a waterbox on my sxi... PNUTT... i have been told you can hear my ski an easy half mile away no problem. If he wants it louder, no worries it will be.
