SX/SXi/SXi Pro 750 sx takeing on water

hey so i picked up a 750 sx a week or so ago and just took it out today for the first time apparently the guy i bought it from decided it wasnt important enought to let me know that the hull leaks from ware the drive shaft goes threw the hull. any help on how to fix this as far as what parts i might need and what i am going to have to do would be greatly aprecieated. Im use to working on my seadoo couch, so this whole stand up thing is a little new to me.

yea i put it in my pool when i got home and poped the hood to see ware the water was comeing from. it was pouring in from the drive shaft area not sure if its just a seal or if its a hull fitting. not even sure how the hull fitting works on this ski. guess ill be pulling the engine this weekend.

is it common tho for these bearings to fail bc the water seemed to be comeing more from behind the black plate that holds the bearing, than from the actual bearing it self.

It probably is leaking from behind the drive shaft housing, but rebuild the housing with new bearings and seals it is easy to do except for pulling your motor out and be sure to silicone the housing when you put it back in.

thanks is it common for the houseing to leak like that tho or is that a sign of hard abbuse on the machine? i mean if its still the origional seal than i guess 16 years is a good run for it lol.

A automotive sealer usually works the best like permatex. oil and fuel does not effect them like some of the others. I would seal all around the firewall while you are in there around all your water lines and exhaust and there is holes that they use to fill the hull with foam that can be sealed.

Its pretty common for this to leak. There is a 4 bolt flange that is covered in rubber. Once in a while the bearing will sieze and break the center out of the thru hull bearing assembly. Not real hard to change just pull the motor, slide out the drive shaft, unbolt the hull bearing assembly, and pry the assembly out. Lots of time the rubber just dry rots and the center of the bulkhead comes loose. Normally there will be a thin skin of rubber making it look like it is still attached. Hope this helps --Jason--
